I swear this is the last part of this story. I said that last time, this became a pastime.

After breakfast, everyone got back into the minivan. They drove to their final destination. A few people and omnics had already shown up to prepare for the protest. Supposedly, it is going to be a peaceful protest. However, there are some outside sources who have already threatened to change that. The group who had organized the protest stood their ground, so the local authorities decided against wasting their precocious time and recourses on anyone who choose to take their chances.
As more people appeared, the team got into position. Angelia was on the ground with Genji and Gabriel. Mcree and Jack watched the area from a nearby roof in order to get a better veiw while Lena patrolled the surrounding area.
The protest finally started at noon. Jack was tempted to listen to the speakers, but he had to tune them out in order to watch for threats. His eyes passed over the crowd as he searched for Gabriel. He saw him, his hood up as he walked with Genji. Gabe pointed to a window on the second floor of one of the buildings surrounding the square where the protest took place. Jack looked to see where Gabe was pointing. He caught sight of a figure in what seemed to be a trench coat. It was bent over something on the ground, looking up and searching the crowd every few seconds.
"Morrison, we've spotted a suspicious character on the second floor of the tower, due north." Gabriel's voice startled Jack. "I'm taking care of it."
"Copy that, Reyes." Jack said, focusing on the figure. "Be careful, it looks like he has a bomb."
Gabriel climbed the railing of the balconies of the building. The window where the shadowy figure sat did not have a balcony, but there was a small railing below it. Gabe stood on that as he shuffled towards the window. Genji had pushed most of the crowd that was next to the window over, leaving a large radius so that if a bomb did go off in the building it wouldn't be as devastating.
Jack scanned the area. Gabe was nowhere to be seen, but now the window was busted open. Jack held his breath as he waited for an all clear that never came.
"Reyes, everything alright?" Jack called over his head set. Dead silence.
Suddenly Jack heard the muffled but distinct sound of glass breaking. The shouts of the protest almost silenced it completely. Gabriel and the shadowed figure fell from a window on the third floor. Gabe quickly stood, kicking the other man away from the crowd. The man pulled out a small device with a single button from the inside of his coat and gave Gabe a crooked smile.
"Take the shot, take the fucking shot!" Gabe yelled to no one specifically. Both Jack and Mcree set their sights on the bomber. Mcree shot first, hitting the man in the shoulder. He writhed in pain, dropping the device as he did so. Gabe dived for the detonator and snatched it away. Lena rushed over and grabbed the man in the trench coat, helping him stand. She held the man's hands as far back as she could without the man screaming out in pain and pushed him out of the square. Gabriel sent Genji with them.
"He had two bombs. One on him and one he was going to throw, or something. We need to find the other and take care of it." Gabe reported. Jack nodded to Mcree before jumping off the roof. Mcree followed suit, landing a few feet away.
"Shouldn't we evacuate? These people are still in danger while that bomb is active." Angelia was the voice of reason in the midst of chaos. Jack looked to the crowd. Only a few people seemed to have noticed what just happened. He walked to the stage while Gabriel followed.
"I'm really sorry to interrupt your speech," Jack said politely to the speaker as he stood on stage, "But I'm afraid I have to. Could I use that mic please?" The speaker gave Jack a look of scepticism but stepped away from the podium all the same.
"No one needs to be alarmed," Jack announced calmly, "but there is a live bomb in the area. We have to ask that everyone calmly exits that way." Jack pointed towards an archway opposite to the building where the bomber set up. "Please do not worry about personal items aside from what you have on you. Just make sure that you get a safe distance from the square."
Almost everyone hesitated to exit at first, but once they saw the office building where the bomber intentionally set up was also being evacuated they decided to do the same. They followed instructions, walking like lambs to a slaughter.
It only took about half an hour to find the bomb and clear the building. The protest would continue another day, once the local authorities deemed it safe.
Gabriel was the one who found the bomb. It was homemade, but it looked like it would have done a lot of damage if thrown into a crowd. A bombsquad came to disable it, and when they arrive they had the Overwatch agents evacuate as well. Mcree, Jack and Gabriel found Angelia in the crowd of people, helping a little girl who skinned her knee during the protest. Lena and Genji were nowhere to be found.
"Lena, are you still with Genji?" Jack asked from over the head set.
"Yes, sir! The police swung by to take care o' the bomber. We are awaiting orders!" She seemed excited to be part of the team who saved the protest.
"Ok, great. Can you meet us on the south side of the square? Avoid the square itself, though. Bombsquad is taking care of all that."
"On it. We'll be there in a giffy!"
"Something doesn't feel quite right." Gabe said as he walked to Jack's side. He motioned to the crowd of worried people. "Maybe I'm just crazy, but this seems like a better time to attack. What if the bombs were just the beginning?"
"That's... actually pretty smart." Jack said, not wanting to belief what he was seeing, but the truth of the matter came bery quickly.
"Sniper on the roof!" Lena shouted through the earpeice. The whole team flinched a little, at both the noice and the words she said.
"Which roof?" Jack called as he scanned each roof for some sign of life.
"Its on the east side if the square. She just fired at us, but she missed."
"Lena, you and Genji need to take care if the sniper. Can you handle that?" Jack stared towards the buildings east to the square. He caught a flash of bright blue in the corner of his eye.
"Way ahead of you." Jack focused on the blue flash. It took him only a second to realize it was Lena. Genji was following closely behind.
"They are going to be alright." Gabe said, wrapping an arm around Jack's shoulder. Jack looked away from the blue flashes to stare at Gabe. He nodded, not knowing what to say.
"You wanna warn everyone or wait?" Gave asked. "If we tell them it will cause panic but if we don't someone could get shot."
"I want to get these people out as soon as we get an all clear from the bombsquad. As long as they are in a group they are a target." Jack stared confidently to the crowd of people. The little girl Angelia was helping ealier was talking to her parents now, jumping up and down and pointing to the angelic woman who gave her a bandaid.
"Good call." Gabe said, letting his arm fall off of Jack's shoulder and to his side. He walked over to Mcree and began to talk to him.
Jack turned on his heels and found himself face to face with Angelia. He jumped back a bit.
"Oh! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to startle you!" Angelia said sheepishly. "I was just wanting to ask if you heard from Genji."
"He's with Lena." Jack pointed towards the roof where they were standing before. They were no longer visible. Jack's stomach sank.
"We took care of the sniper." Genji's monotone voice flowed through the head set. "Lena was hit, though. Nothing fatal, but she does need medical attention"
"Genji, can you stand closer to the edge of the roof?" Angelia said.
Genji did as he was told. Jack opened his mouth to ask Angelia why, but before he could say anything Angelia had flow to the top of the building and landed next to Genji. They rushed out of view, kost likely to go help Lena.
Gabe ran over to Jack. "You alright?"
"I'm fine." Jack nodded.
"Hey, boss!" Mcree grabbed Gabe's arm and hnded him a small paper. "The square has been cleared by bombsquad. Everyone should be free to leave."
"Great. Thanks, Mcree." Gabe patted the kid on the back before turning to Jack again. "I'll go tell them." He pointed to the crowd before walking off. Mcree stared at Jack with a small smirk.
"What's up with you, kid?" Jack asked light heartly. Mcree chuckled a bit.
"You and Reyes are awful close, huh?" Mcree took a small step foward.
"Were good friends, yes." Jack replied. He didn't like were this was going.
"Didn't seem like tha' back on the plane." Jack blushed. He wasn't sure how long Mcree was watching him and Gabe before he announced that it was time for take off.
"I don't know what you mean. You better remember who you're talking to." Jack stood a little bit taller as he said this.
"Well, I reckon I'm talkin' to the grand Jack Morrison, face of Overwatch and father of seven." Mcree smirked as he wiped the confident grin right off Jack's face.
"You were awake?" Jack asked.
"I don't know what you mean." Mcree mocked. "Though it would be absoulutly hilarious if Morrison the Lady Killa' wasn't into ladies at all."
"You aren't either, are you?" Jack asked, trying to change the subject. "I saw the way you stared at Gabe when you saw him shirtless."
Mcree's face turned pink. He had hoped no one noticed, but it looked like Jack had. He had backed himself into a corner.
"Touchè." Mcree admited. He stormed off, not nessacary in a specific direction. Just away from Jack.
"What was all that about?" Gabe asked, startling Jack. Gabe laughed. "You've been so jumpy lately."
Jack blushed. "It was nothing. I'll tell you later. We should go check on Lena."
"Ok, let me get Mcree before we go." Gabe rushed off after Mcree. Jack watched the crowd move as everyone left. The protest was a disaster, but maybe the bomber and the sniper will get it more attention from the media for its cause.
"Hey, Morrison, you coming?" Jack turned on his heels to see Gabe standing about ten feet away. Mcree was right behind him.
"Yeah." Jack glaced at the crowd one last time before following Gabe. They had to explain to the receptionist by the door what happened before they were allowed to go to the roof. She looked mortified at the fact that there was a sniper. Gabe leaned against the back wall of the elevator while Jack and Mcree stood on either side. Once they reached the top floor they had to go up a steep flight of stairs to reach the roof.
Lena's left leg and the gravel around her were drenched in blood. Genji held her hand while Angelia preformed some quick first-aid so that the bullet wound wouldn't get infected. Lena was trying to stay calm, but she couldn't help but dig her nails into Genji's hand whenever Angelia touched her injured leg.
"Lena!" Jack rushed over and kneeled down next to her. He couldn't help but feel like this was his fault. If he had taken care of the sniper himself Lena wouldn't have gotten hurt.
"Hey, its okay. My legs alright now." Jack laughed at her pitiful attempt to make a joke.
"I don't get it, she isn't-" Genji began.
"She's lost a lot of blood, cut her some slack." Angelia interrupted.
"How is she doing, doc?" Mcree asked.
"She will get better. We need to get her back to the ship and to the base quickly, though. We were able to stop the blood loss but she is still injured, none the less." Angelia stated. She seemed confident as she took control. "Reyes, can you get the ship to pick us up as close to here as they can get?" Gabe nodded as he pulled out his phone. He walked away to call the pilot.
"Genji, I need you and Mcree to carry Lena to elevator. Try not to move her leg too much. Mcree, just stand below them so that if Genji falls or drops Lena you can help. She'll need some help walking as well."
Genji picked Lena up, following Angelia's directions carefully. He held her like a princess and she wrapped her arms around his neck. Angelia followed Mcree and Genji as they carried Lena down the stairs.
"The ship should be arriving in ten minutes, which is about how long it will take for us to get to the landing pad downtown." Gabe called out, before realizing Jack was the only one left on the roof. "Hey, whats wrong? You heard Angie, Lena is going to recover" Gabe reached out to grab Jack's hand, but he lurched away.
"She wouldn't have to recover if it wasn't for me." Jack spat. Gabe gave him a confused look. "I gave her the order to go after the sniper. This is my fau-"
Jack was cut off by Gabe wrapping his arms around him and holding him in a hug. "It's not your fault. You had to make the call. The sniper was already shooting at them, what was to stop her from killing Lena or you or some innocent child? You made the right call." Gabe ran his hand through Jack's blonde hair and Jack leaned in to listen to Gabe's heartbeat. The steady rhythm was calming to hear.
"We should go join the team." Jack said after a long silence. He couldn't help but give the pool of blood one last glance before heading downstairs with everyone else.
