Chapter 22

Clementine's POV

I walked awhile longer but then I heard groaning.

"Just great..." I mumbled under my breathe and took shelter in an abandoned car. It wasn't the best place but at least it would keep them out.

I watched the herd move. All the groaning made me sick. That's like literally what they do all day besides eating anything with a heartbeat.

I sighed and got comfortable. It would be awhile before they passed.

I slowly started to think of Gabe and how much I would miss that dork.

Maybe I shouldn't go back. I mean it seems that would only make things worse.

Gabe probably hates me, Kate too.

I sighed again and closed my eyes holding back my tears.

I looked out the window again and they were slimming in their numbers.

"Wont' be much longer." I said to myself and glancing at the setting sun.

"Looks like I'm staying here for the night." I mumbled.

 I crawled into the backseat and slowly drifted off to sleep.

I woke up to banging on the car door. sat up

"mmnnnghhh" I groaned and sat up.

"Good morning to you Mr. walker." I said sarcastically while grabbing my knife and slowly opening the door.

The walker lunged but I stabbed it right in the eye.

I sighed and pushed it out of my way.

I grabbed a water bottle from my supplies and drank only a little of it.

I looked back at the car.

"Maybe I should search it..." I mumbled and climbed back inside shutting the door.

I looked around the dashboard. Just a few bullets.

I took them and put them in my pocket. I looked through the compartments in the car and found nothing.

I finished searching the car.

I only found bullets.

I smiled and but the box of bullets in my bag and quickly got out of the car.

I started walking again.

It couldn't be much farther...

Gabe's POV

Its been a day since Clem left.

I really missed her...

I didn't get any sleep last night. My father came to check on me but I just feel sick.

The kind of sick that affects you physically and mentally. I had never felt this way about someone before. I thought we were going places. I guess I was wrong.

I sighed and looked at the plate of food next to my bed.

I wasn't hungry at all. I just wanted to sleep but, I couldn't. Every time I closed my eyes I saw her.

I missed her. And knowing that she was coming back, made me happy and sad at the same time.

I mean at least I would still be able to see her....But i might see her with someone else and their baby...And knowing she will forget about me..She'll probably act like I dont exist.

I missed Javi...He would've known what to do..If i would'nt have messed things up like I always do...He would still be here. I believe he loves me more than Kate does. At least he came for me. Kate didn't care. I sighed and heard a knock on the door.

I said nothing as my father walked in.

He looked at the plate of food, then at me.

"Hijo ¿por qué no has comido?" (Son why haven't you eaten)

He asked and I shrugged.

"What's the point? I'm not even hungry.." I said glaring at him with my red puffy eyes.

He sighed and face palmed himself while walking out of my room.

David's POV

What have I done...Was all I could think.

I've hurt my son...

I got rid of the one person who gave him self confidence...

What have I done. My little boy hates me...

I lied to him.

I have ruined everything.

This place was supposed to be safe for him.

But now that Clem's gone...I don't even know if he'll be here tomorrow.

I sighed and walked into my office.

I needed to get Clem and Javi back.

To fix all of this. It would take them.

I know now how much Clem and Gabe really care for each other.

I don't deserve to see the sun tomorrow...

I sighed and looked at the gun on my desk.

I could end all of this.

Right here. Right now...

But that's not what real men do. I taught my son that. And I will not cower into this world.

I'm going to fight this. For Gabe, Mariana, Javi, my old wife, Clem, and Kate.

I'll bring her back...

I promise Gabe...I will bring her back.

Clementine's POV

I panted as I looked up at the sign that read.

*McCaroll Ranch*

I smiled brightly and a woman spoke.

"Who are you?"

"Clementine." I said and she smiled.

"Why are you here?" She asked.

"I'm part of The new frontier. I'm here for a toddler they handed over to you, his name is Aj." I said lifting up my sleeve revealing the mark.

She nodded and got down.

A few minutes later she returned with my goofball.

I smiled brightly and I heard an excited "Clem!"

She opened the gates and stepped down, handing Aj to me.

"Oh Aj I have missed you so much!" I said tears rolling down my cheeks.

He smiled and poked my nose.

"I missed you too Clem!" He said and I smiled again.

"You talk so well now.." I said and he held up 3 fingers.

"I'm this many!" He said and I smiled.

"That's great goofball, now how about we head back to my community?"

I asked him and he nodded cheerfully.

I thanked the woman and headed back the way I came.
