She heard her name being yelled out, "Misty, get your stupid ugly ass down here, right now!" She didn't know what was going on, she trembled as she descended the stairs and walked over to her uncle Thomas, who was holding one big and one small envelope in his hand. He looked at them, then at her and then slammed them into her chest. She was pushed back a good two to three feet and had the wind knocked out of her. She looked at him and he snarled at her and said "What? You think you're fucking special now just because you're getting mail?" Misty's eyes started to tear up but she quickly stopped that, if he saw her cry, he would do more, so much more. Inflicting pain on her was one of his favorite pastimes. She did everything that she could so that she didn't attract any attention. She no longer cared what others thought about her. She thought that if they didn't care about her then she wouldn't really be seen at all and hopefully she thought that no further harm would come to her. She withdrew further and further into her own world. In her world it was just her, no one else, no one to pick on her or to torment her. It was a somewhat peaceful place but utterly solitary. This withdrawal was where she started to believe that she wasn't special, it was just safer for her there. She never felt like she could measure up to the other gorgeous and popular girl friends that she spent time with in and after school with. "No, I'm not special, not at all" she said.

Misty held onto the envelopes close to her chest and literally ran up the stairs, two steps at a time and ran to her room, shutting and locking the door behind her. She rubbed her chest, it hurt so badly from the impact of her uncle's abusive delivery of her mail. Her chest was sensitive as it was, being a 36 C, she always bound her chest with ace wrap bandages to keep them close to her body, she didn't want to her breast to be noticed at all, she couldn't allow her uncle or any of the farm hands for that matter to notice. Misty looked at the big envelope and it had a return address of the University of Oregon State. Misty quickly ripped the envelope up, took a deep breath and read what was inside.

Dear Ms. Rhodes,                                                                   December 15,2005

We are pleased to advise you that you have been accepted at the University of Oregon State and that due to your excellent and constant GPA, high SAT's scores and your entrance essay, you have been chosen to receive a full ride scholarship while attending the school, provided all GPA's are maintained and you continue to meet the academic criteria. We await your arrival at the beginning of the Fall semester, the first week in January. We are excited to have you join our academic world.

She had to keep herself from jumping up and down and screaming out that she had done it and she was going to be free so soon, her face was stretched and she wanted to jump on her crappy little twin sized bed but knew that it would fall apart because it usually shutters when she lays down on it and she's not that heavy. She opened her mouth and screamed without any sound escaping her throat. She pumped the air over and over again, she was so happy to be able to leave this place and never have to look back. Pure pleasure coursed through her veins and her skin tingled and she got goose bumps, she knew that she was about to be completely free!

She finally looked at the smaller envelope and noticed that it was from a law office in Wichita Kansas. She wasn't sure what the letter was about and what or why it had anything to do with her? It was obvious that it was important. She opened the envelope cautiously and pulled out the letter and read it to herself.
