She slowly opened her eyes and standing there was this very attractive man with sun bleached blonde hair and the most amazing light green eyes, smiling and looking at her. Misty shrieked so loud that it could be heard from about a mile away. Lynda came running out to the pool area and smacked the man on his wide shoulders. Lynda grabbed a hold of Misty to get her to calm down. Tears were rolling down Misty's face and her body shaking uncontrollably. Lynda spoke softly to Misty, "honey it's ok. This is Charlie, my stupid older brother. I know I told you about him. He must not have introduced himself correctly!" Lynda turns her head to her brother and mouths "asshole." Charlie shrugged his shoulders in an apologetic way, he had no way of knowing that she would react that way. He didn't want to interrupt her, she looked like she was having fun and she was one of the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and he wanted to just watch her for a minute, yeah it sounds creepy but he was just in awe of her beauty. Finally, Misty calmed down enough, she stopped shaking and the tears cleared up. Misty wiped the tears away from her face, now completely embarrassed at how she reacted. Charlie knelt down to the lounge chair and put his hand out to formally introduced himself. "Hi there, I'm Charlie, Lynda's older brother and I am truly sorry for scaring you. I just saw someone sitting out here and I thought it was Lynda but then when I saw that you weren't her, well I didn't want to interrupt, you looked like you were having fun." Charlie put his hand out to shake Misty's in apology. Charlie was thinking, "please take my hand, please." Misty looked up and shook his hand. Misty cleared her throat and said "Hello, I'm Misty. Lynda and I are roommates at school and best friends. I have heard a bit about you." Charlie smiled and from that moment on he was drawn to her like moths to a flame, the pull he felt to be near her and talk to her was so strong it scared him. He wanted to always be there and that was it, the three were always together, just like the three musketeers for the rest of the girls' winter break. Charlie, Lynda and Misty were like joined at the hips, they were always joking around and laughing. It felt so natural that it surprised Misty that she could feel this way so quickly with not only Lynda and Charlie but the whole Chaplin family. The day the girls had to leave to go back to school was a sad day for all of them, especially Misty.
When the girls got back to school Misty finally told Lynda that she had a crush on Charlie and that was why she was acting so blue and depressed, for Misty it was that they weren't all together still. She felt like something was now missing and she knew what it was, it was family, it was love, it was Charlie. Charlie was lost for days without Misty around, he had become so attached so quickly that he could feel a tangible loss when the girls left. So, the three of them figured out a way for them to talked to each other over skype at least once a week, if not more. Charlie began calling more and more to talk primarily to Misty. They would spend time talking about the trials and tribulations of their life or just shoot the breeze whatever they needed to tell each other. There was a certain flirty charm that Charlie kept bringing up in their conversations. Charlie wanted her to know that she was always on his mind but didn't want to push too hard because he knew that she was innocent and he adored that about her. Misty would blush, she liked the attention but she told Charlie that she didn't think that they should be anything other than friends for right now. She said "I've got my classes and studying that I really need to focus on right now but you know that you hold a place in my heart." Misty never told Charlie "no" because to be completely honest he was a really hottie. Golden hair and gleaming light green eyes that were breath taking. She was always looking forward to talking to Charlie, he always brightened her day. He was her slice of sunshine when her world became cloaked in dark clouds and forbidding darkness.
One day Misty called Charlie just to talk. She was having a bad day, she had a particularly hard class and the professor made her feel utterly stupid because she couldn't come up with the answer quick enough for his liking. She felt really upset and knew that Charlie could always make her laugh so she didn't think twice about it and she called him on Skype. He answered the call without a shirt on, which wasn't totally out of the norm for him. Charlie was known for working out during the day and usually he didn't wear a shirt when he did. This call however, was not one of those times. Misty knew the moment that she saw his face that something was wrong. Charlie looked uncomfortable and apprehensive, Misty was able to see that something was different with him and it was because he wasn't talking. Unfortunately, Charlie had a woman over at his place. She heard a woman laughing in the background and calling out for him. The woman yelled, "Charlie, come on where did you throw my thong?" Charlie eyes shut quickly and so tightly, he quickly opened them just in time to see that Misty's smile was gone and her eyes were glassy. Charlie could see it and knew that this call was going to cost him; how much he wasn't yet sure. Misty stuttered "I'm sorry, I- I- I didn't mean to disturb you." Charlie tried to get Misty to stay on the call, so he could explain but the woman who was there walked into the full view of the camera with nothing on. She asked Charlie "who are you talking to? Can we get back to what we were doing? I'm still horny as fuck, I need that cock of yours!" Charlie, he saw how upset Misty was, right then and there she was broken. Charlie turned to the woman and said "shut the fuck up bitch, I told you I didn't want you here in the first place, find your fucking clothes and get the fuck out now!" Misty said "I um, I well, I guess I'll talk to you later." Charlie started to say something but Misty slammed her laptop closed basically closing the conversation. There was no opportunity given to explain or hear what he was going to say. Charlie said "God Damn it, I didn't want you to be here, I told you so many times and then you pull that stunt! Do you have any idea of kind of damage that you just created? How much hurt your actions just did? Get the fuck out of my house and don't ever come back or so help me you'll wish you hadn't." He was serious he knew exactly how to devastate the girl in his house. He knew who her family was and how important it was for them to have a pristine image and he would destroy that completely if she didn't leave and stay away or if she pissed Charlie off.
Misty honestly didn't know if she could take what he had to say. Her chest felt like there was a huge hole punched through it and her heart felt like it was torn to pieces and that there was nothing left of it. She tried everything she could think of to keep those feelings from controlling her but she wasn't able to. She just hid it from everyone and she thought that the best way to handle it was to either ignore it and pretend that she didn't see it, it never happened and that if it did then it shouldn't didn't bother her anyway. Yes, even though it crushed her down to her soul. She had always been attracted to Charlie and wanted to be with him but she was too shy to ever say anything and now it was over before it could ever begin. Charlie could see the hurt in Misty's eyes as she shut the laptop effectively ending the call, he felt horrible. He slammed his hands down on his desk and just wanted to yell. His hands went into fists and he just wanted to beat something up, he needed to go to the gym right now! The woman was an ex-girlfriend of his, she was trying to get back into his life. She figured if she came over and took off all her clothes that she could seduce him back into a relationship. The only thing she accomplished was to drive him further away to the point where he never wanted to see her again, she cost him with that little fucking stunt. Once he calmed down a little after the call was closed, he turned to the naked chick standing right behind him and he grew even more upset that Misty saw that, it was bad enough that she heard the woman but to see her completely nude standing there begging Charlie "to come finish what they started" which was nothing at all. He truly cared for Misty and wanted to be in a relationship with her but she always said she needed to concentrate on college and classes. It wasn't like they were anything other than friends. He kept trying to tell himself that to try an ease the pain that was now in the center of his chest. Even just the thought that he hurt Misty, made him feel terrible. He didn't know if he would be able to fix this situation with her or if it had completely destroyed any possible future they might have had.
Misty's way of dealing with her pain was just like she did when she was younger and on the farm. She started to withdraw into herself the way she had always done. She was headstrong and decided that she had to keep busy or the threat of breaking down and not being able to get back up would completely control her. She started by diving headfirst into her studying, this was her coping mechanism, how she attempted to deal with hard situations or she just stop feeling things a together, that was hard but she learned young how to do that. She spent more and more time away from the dorm room. She added two additional classes to her schedule to make sure that she had no choice but to stay completely busy so nothing other than the classes were on her mind and she only came back to the dorm room sleep, shower and grab her books. She was studying in the library to try to avoid calls from Charlie or from talking to Lynda about why she wasn't there much anymore and why it was so awkward between her and Charlie. Misty didn't want any more stress and she didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings but she couldn't handle being around Lynda too much without thinking of Charlie and that hurt her heart too much. She preferred to be numb and stay that way, it was the only survival mechanism that she had and she was really good at it. She was used to putting on the show that she didn't care about anything but inside she was torn, shredded and shattered beyond repair and couldn't understand what must be wrong with her that no one wanted to be with her that way, especially him.
