"I noticed that there is a new employee down at Ace's market today babe." I say blankly dropping the bag of groceries on the table. I walk slowly over to the living room and sit on the couch, glaring at the short, coy, girl gently chopping carrots in the kitchen.
I cough gently to get her attention. "I wonder what happened to the old guy that worked there? Heard any rumors?". I squint at the girls small silloiete, illuminated only by the single sink bulb. "I don't know sweetie, the old fella must have retired somewhere, about time too. He has been working there for as long as I can remember, and he was really starting to forget how to properly stock the isles." She says softly.
I watch the blade of her knife swiftly rise and fall into the flesh of the carrots, cutting each carrot into small, precise portions with great accuracy. "Honestly, I'm glad the old man's not there anymore, hopefully the new guy can keep things stocked correctly. I think it will make the store better than it has been in years." She grinned slightly and continued cutting vegetables.
I knew a lot about the girl I had been dating for three years, but there wasn't much I knew for sure about her. In fact the only thing I knew for sure, was that no one would ever see that poor old man again.
