So that's how me and Lexi started living together and from there things took a turn for the better and now that strange girl in love with that day under a tree, was my girlfriend! I don't know when exactly it was that I suspected that Lexi was capable of hurting someone...killing someone, but it was around the time the sixth person went missing in the two months we had been dating.
At first I thought she was cheating on me. She would go out late and not come home until early. Now I was used to college parties, but we usually went together and she had never really liked them anyway. She would never let me come with her and she never even told me where she was going, she would always come home tired and I would take care of her, but it worried me.
I didn't know if I was being use, if she had a job she didn't want me to know about, or if she had a different secret that she felt she needed to keep from me, and I didn't know which was worse. I got really suspicious when she came home one morning with a long cut on her arm. She dropped down next to me on the couch and passed out. She was exhausted. I was running my hand to hers when I felt the edge of the long gash in her arm.
At first I wanted to freak out, I was determined to put an end to whatever it was that was making her act like this. She was dropping classes, getting lower grades, growing distant, and now she was getting hurt. I knew that I couldn't let this go on any longer. I hopped off the couch and went to the bathroom, I grabbed some bandages and neosporin and tended to her wound.
The next day was Saturday and neither of us had classes so I brought her into the living room of our apartment and questioned her about what happened the night before. She bantered on about it being nothing, but I let her know I was serious and that this was the kind of thing that could end our relationship. So I asked what she had really been doing all those nights, and she told me. She told me everything. The urges she had, the people she had visited before, how she had been doing this all her life, how she couldn't help it, how the man from last night had fought back, how she didn't want me involved, how she wished she could have told me sooner, how she knew I'd leave now, and how I'd probably turn her in. As she talk my stomach turned, I felt like i was going to throw up. I wanted to believe she was kidding, but she was serious, and it made sense. She was right...I was going to turn her in.
Without saying a word I grabbed my keys and ran out of the dingy first floor apartment. My mind was filled with thoughts. Was she going to kill me next? Why hadn't she already? Why would she tell me? I couldn't date a killer. That small, dainty, girl couldn't possibly be the reason for all these deaths. I got in my car and drove off as fast as I could.
I wasn't driving anywhere. I was just getting away. I would report her soon enough, but I just needed away. I wasn't even really paying attention to my driving, i was just trying to put as much distance between and my seemingly perfect girlfriend as I could, as fast as I could!
I drove to the coast, and then I just followed it. I must have put thirty miles between me and the Campus before I heard the familiar sound of police sirens. I pulled over to the side of the road and tried to keep my cool. I was still having trouble thinking straight."License and registration please?" the officer said. My license! I had left in such a rush I left it at home in my wallet. "Sorry officer it has been a crazy day, I completely forgot to grab my license at home, can't you just let me off this once." I almost considered telling everything to the officer right there, but the last thing I needed was to try and explain that I had been dating a serial killer for months right now.
"Son, I've got you on multiple traffic violations and I've got you clocked at 106mph, and you are telling me you don't have a license on you?" He raises eyebrow. "Haha, I guess I am officer, like I said...really crazy." There was a long pause why the cop stared at me.
"hahaha, I understand son, we all have days like that, just don't let it happen again ok?" I sighed with relief. "yes sir, of course, I really appreciate this. Thank you!" "Step out of the car sir. You are under arrest for traffic code violations and resisting arrest." "Wha...I...Resisting arrest!!" I said louder than I probably should have. "you kids think you can talk yourselves out of anything these days." He smirks. Screw city cops.
