"Ok, what do we do little man?"  "Don't call me that."  This was awkward already.  "First thing that I'M going to do is keep my out for any creeps that would have a reason to kill a big time like Lane.  What I need from you is for you to grow a pair and do something pretty illegal for me."  He says.  I look at him concerned, but eventually I let out a sigh and nod at him.  "What do you need?" I say.  "I need you to break into the police databases and get all the information you can on Lexianne.  I don't care how, I just need it as soon as possible, in case we can't find this loon before she is set to...ya know"  He glares at me.  "Think you can handle that?"

"I can do that." I say. "Good, now get out of here, and don't bring your ugly mug back here without the info and a bath!  Get! Go! Now!"  Stanley begins to usher me quickly out of the room, reinforced by a series of growls and animalistic noises.  I quickly slide on my shoes and head down the stairs,. I call out a quick, "Thanks Stanley!" And I hear him mumble something loudly from upstairs, I laugh and exit the building.

I begin walking back to my house, and wonder how in the world I am going to break into a police database!  I am not a dumb guy by any means, but that is a bit above my pay grade.  I mean, I check code for flaws for a living, not hack bank accounts!  I don't think I've ever done an illegal thing in my life and now I am living with a murderer and working with... whatever Stanley is.

I decide my best bet is to call up someone a little smarter than me.  "Hey, Jacob what's up?"

"Not much buddy, what are you doing?"

"Well... that's kinda what I'm calling about Jacob.  I need some help."

"Ok, what do you need?"

"Well..."  I laugh.

"Hmm?"

"I need you to...um...bre..."  My voice trails off.

"You are gonna have to speak up buddy.". He says, sounding annoyed.

"I need you to break into the BUPD database!"  I blurt out.

"What?!  Wait...why?"

I contimplate what to say for a moment...I let out a sigh.   "They arrested Lexi, they think she killed someone, I don't think she did, I have to clear her name... I need your help.  What do you say?  Will you help me?"

"You two are the strangest couple I swear.  And you...you are one crazy kid you know that?"

I chuckle.  "Yeah, yeah I do."

"But I'll help you...but we hang out more after this...and I'm not talking about the casual, hey let's hang out, I am talking about I call you up and you dump that woman right on the side of the road and come hang our with your man Jacob, you get me?"  He laughs at his own request

I laugh too. "I get you Jake.  Thanks.  I owe you one."

"You owe me all the ones."

"You are still a nerd."

"Well I'm the nerd that's going to get your love sick butt into a police database!  So you best show some respect."

"I am never going to live this one down am I?"

"Probably not... unless I get caught and go to prison...then you are good."

"That isn't going to happen, you didn't spend all those nights in your dorm being lame just so you could make new bits of code...me and you both know you can do more than that."

"Man if you were anymore if a sweet talker we'd be more than friends."  He says teasingly.

"I can hear your affection through the phone bud, tone it down a little."

"Yeah, anyway, meet me at my place ASAP, let's get this over with."

I arrive at Jake's house a few hours later and he is already on his couch, with his laptop poised on the end table, while he types away at it.  I recognize some of what he is doing as password code, but the rest is somewhat foreign to me.  "Welcome to my humble domain.  And by the way...you look like trash."  He says sarcasticly.  I sit down on the couch next to him. "Yeah, I know, rough night, and Humble?"  I say.  "If you had anymore tech in here the CIA would have a feel day!". He continues typing an responds.  "They just might after this."

He continues typing for a few minutes than curses himself.  "I can't do it, their is no way around their encryption, I can get you in without being detected, but I can't get you through login, it requires a BUPD username and password, and I'm not exactly a hacker, I'd need at least that to get the information out unnoticed."  He frowns at me.  "No, it's ok, where do we get that kind of information?"  I say frantically, desperate for another way.

"Well, almost any officer will have an ID card with that information on it during working hours...but to get the kind of information you are looking for you'd have to get it from a high ranking official, like a captain or detective."  He says disappointed. He looks at me confused as my face begins to spread into what I can only imagine is a mischievous smile.  "Did you say detective?". I say sounding far too happy about the situation.

"Well yeah, if you can get me a detectives ID card I can get you in without them even knowing.  But where are you going to?...oh, oh no!  You aren't going to!?  You definitely aren't that crazy!  Are you?"  He says cringing at my response.  I laugh at the irony of my situation, feeling the soreness in my side and face as I do.  "Oh trust me, this particular detective won't know what hit him."
