I start the day by getting dressed in ultra casual clothes. I didn't want to be high profile where I was going. I check my phone. 23 missed calls. All from work. Who knows if it's even safe there, and besides, I have work to do. I walk out of my apartment complex and walk down the street feeling more savage than I ever have before.
My whole life was running on a clock, good knows what kid of dirty court proceedings they were putting Lexi through to get her sentence finished up so fast. I quickened my pace. I turned the corner into an alley and kept my pace, I could tell I was off campus but other than that I was lost. I have never been in this part of town before.
I see the group of three men blocking the backdoor into a large dark building. That must be it. All three men are taller than me, and wearing matching bandanas. They laugh as I approach. "Yo Marx. You see this kid?! Who is this guy?" The center thug exclaims. I think of all the different ways this could go down, and I decided to bluff them. "Awww, are you dudes matching? That's so cute! Is this were the besties club meets?". I blurt out over confidently, I can hardly believe what I just said.
The thugs shoot confused looks at me which quickly turn to looks of anger. The first thug yells at me, and I see them all reach for their guns. I'm too far away to stop them and they have their guns trained on me almost immediately. The first thug walks towards me, gun pointed at my face and presses the barrel against my forhead. I am getting really tired of being in these life or death situations. My blood starts pumping and I can feel the soreness in my muscles begin to fade. I cletch my teeth.
"Give me one good reason I shouldn't put a bullet in your soft skull right now boy?!". The first thug says in a growl. I take a deep breath and I put my mind to Lexi... I hit the first thugs wrist quickly, his finger squeezes the trigger letting off a shot that nearly hits my ear. I twist the gun away from him and point it back at him, my ears still ringing from the shot and my heart pounding I give him the most serious look I can muster.
"Listen pal it has been a REALLY rough couple of days for me! And I don't have a lot of time so I need you all to chill out! You get me?!" I yell fueled by anger and fear. He starts to chuckle and raises his hands. "Put the guns down boys...this kids the real deal." He says. The thugs lower their guns. "Do you guys know anything about James Ganon?" I say getting straight to the point. the gun still aimed at the first thug.
"Yeah, this is his club you are holding up kid." The first thug says laughing. "Take me to him." I say sternly. "Ok, can you take that gun off my head for me first.". I think for a second. "Not a chance, go." He laughs. He turns and leads me inside.
The club erupted with panic as soon as we were spotted. People ran in every direction and the overwhelming music cut out. The thug leads me to an office in the back, he knocks on the door. "Hey boss, someone wants to talk with you." He says through the door. "Bring them in." A deep gravelly voice says from the other side.
As I enter the office I notice it is just one, slightly overweight man, sitting at a large oak desk. A half smoked cartoon of cigerettes next to him and a glass of whiskey in his hand. I keep the gun on the thugs head, but the man waves his hand and states "You can go now Brett." And the thug scampers off, seemingly unconcerned about the gun aimed at his head. It unnerved me. "Sit" he says motioning to the chair on the far side of his desk. I sit at it, the gun held firmly at my side.
"As I'm sure you know, my name is Mr. Ganon. Owner of this fine establishment and the premeir alternative businessman of this city. What can I help you with today son?" The man said holding his larg fist in his open palm. "Whatever you want to call it, you are a criminal, and I need some things only you have access to." I say, surprised by my own courage.
"Listen boy, I don't know who you are, and I know who everyone who's anyone is. Which means that you have never seen the streets before, you are just a fresh, dumb, pampered city kid with no more reason to live I would guess. But yet you have the audacity to come in here, threaten my guards, disrupt my business, and insult me!.....You have guts kid, I respect that, you remind me a lot of myself when I was your age. What's your name?"
"Luke, the names Luke." I say. "Well Luke, whatever you need I can get it for you, but you have to promise me something." I narrow my eyes at him. "What?" I say suspiciously. "A ballsy kid like you running around could cause trouble for me, and could be especially bad for business. I don't know what you are up to but i know that if you go stirring up trouble with everyone you ain't gonna get it done. So come to me when ever you make any big moves, these are my streets after all, I can make sure you don't get yourself killed. And maybe you can do some things for me if they ain't too far out of your way." He smiles.
"Ok, deal." I say reluctantly. "Good, I'm glad we've reached an agreement, now, I can get you what you need. How about you fill me in." I recall Stanley's instructions in my head and relay them to James. He laughs and leans back in his chair. "You really are one ballsy kid."
