"How did you get this?" Jacob asks, eyeing me suspiciously. "It doesn't matter how I got it, now can you get what we need?" I say hastily. Jacob keeps eying me suspiciously as he types away at his laptop. I just smile at him and sit quietly next to him. Finally, he turns to me an says "we're in." "Dude that is so cliche, can you download any information on Lexi and her case for me?" I say. He nods and begins typing again, plugging a flash drive into the laptop, he begins the download.
We sit back and talk while the download continues. "So how's work been?". I say, casually making small talk. "Not great, something is up. Things aren't running like they usually do, and it is really messing us up at research and development." I cringe as he says that. " Yeah, about that, Gregory Lane is dead, he is the one they are accusing Lexi of killing." He sits back in his couch and his face goes pale.
"I don't feel so good." He says, looking sick. "How can he be dead? I...I don't understand. I work right down from his office, I never saw anything, I never heard anything about this. How could this happen?" He says. I put my hand on his shoulder. "I don't know Jake, but we are gonna find out. I promise.". He sits up, pulls the flash drive out of his laptop and hands it to me. "I know Lexianne could never do anything like this...you have to go prove it." He says, giving me a half smile.
I smile back at him and stand up to leave. "Thanks again Jake!" I say as I make my way out the door. I walk down to my car and get in. I sigh...back to Stanley's.
"About time you got here you creep!" Stanley says standing far to close to my face. "Good to see you too Stanley." I say reluctantly. He stares at me from his spot on the table and then let's out a sort of clicking sound. He seems to snap back into reality as he asks me "So? Do you have it?!" "I do" I say enthusiasticly. "But do you even own a computer?" "Do I even own a computer?! Of course I do! It's state of the art!". He leads me into a small room and ushers me inside.
The room seemed like no one had been in it in years, although, like most of Stanley's place, it was unusually clean. I could tell the room hadn't been put to use in sometime because the monitor that sat on the desk before me was nearly as wide as I was! "Stanley are you sure this thing Vern works? It looks a bit... outdated." I say trying not to offend the already irritable man. "It works, and more importantly it can't be traced...nope, not a bit of trackable software on this bad boy." He says hitting the back of the computer.
He hits it twice more before I finally ask him what he is doing. "Usually it starts easier than this." He chuckles and I roll my eyes. We eventually get it to start and he plugs in the flash drive. He opens up the documents and we begin to study them.
"She has some interesting things in her profile to say the least.". Stanley says giving me a sad look. "I already know how her parents died Stan.". "That pig is lucky I have a code or he'd be a teeny tiny part of my collection." He growls.
"What we need to know is how long we have to work with." I say, getting back to the point. "Yeah, yeah, here it is.". He points at the screen. "Three days" He sighs. I put my hand on my shoulder and reassure him. "We can do it." He nods at me and shuts the monitor off. He leads me out of the room and back to his room filled with furniture, he hops on to a chair and leans back, thinking. I sit in front of him and do some thinking of my own.All we had to do now was get ahold of this guy, and turn him into the police with proof to clear Lexi's name... assuming their is a guy, and proof. I sigh. It is a long shot. He sits up quickly. "Ok... I'll keep an eye out and an ear open for this guy, and I'll figure out a way to bust Lexi out if we need to. In the mean time I need you to do something for me."
We talk for a while and Stanley manages to go the whole night without attempting to kill me. We finally part ways and Stanley shows me how to properly remove blood from the trunk of a car. On my way home I stop and grab some well deserved food, and by the time I make it to my bed, sore and tired, I fall fast asleep.
