Robin's POV

Dream

I hid under my covers as my dad came staggering into my room with a beer bottle in his hands. I snuggled closer to the stuffed wolf my mom gave me before the accident. The wolf was fully black with light blue eyes and soft fur that helped calm my nerves. My mom always told me that it would protect me, but it never did. Yet, I still never lost hope, even when I turned thirteen.

My father's footsteps approached my bed and I held my breathe as he came closer and closer. Then, the sound of him coming stopped. But, I wasn't relived, because I knew what would happened next. Suddenly, the covers were ripped away from me.

I shielded my body as much as I could from his blows, but it didn't help. It never helped. I cried out in pain asking, begging for him to stop. I sobbed out loud, crying. He left me on the floor curled into a little ball. Blood was everywhere; my body ached. I stood up on shaky legs and walked over to my dresser. I grabbed my clothes and put them into a bag.

A child shouldn't have to go through this, I thought. Fathers were suppose to protect their daughters and make sure they were safe. I guess I missed out on that when mom died.

I was going to escape this place, even if it meant living on my own. He wasn't going to change, so why should I stick around trying and hoping for a change? I took one last look around my bare room, grabbed my stuffed wolf, and jumped out the window without a second glance.

End Of Dream

Three years later

I woke up clutching my old stuffed wolf. I hated when the nightmares came. It was another reminder of what I had to go through. I looked down and sighed when I realized I hadn't woken up Tommy.

I sat up and took a look around the abandoned building we were staying in. It looked stable from the the outside, but the inside was littered with broken bottles and needles. There was barely any paint still left on the walls. Graffiti was written everywhere and holes were punched or either kicked in. I guess teens had parties and druggies came here to sell their supply. At least we found a mat to sleep on this time.

I heard Tommy's stomach growl, and just as I predicted, mine growled next. I sighed when he stirred in his sleep. He opened one of his eyes and looked up at me, then a smile broke out on his face. It amazed me that no matter what situation we were in, he was always smiling. I suppose when you're six it just comes naturally.

"Come on, we have to go find you something to eat." I said while standing up. He stood up next to me and slipped his hand into mine. I smiled. This kid was just to cute. I grabbed our back pack and slung it on my back.We didn't have much in there, just some old tattered rags.

Just to let you know, my names Robin. I have light brown hair, caramel colored skin, with light green eyes, and an athletic build. I'm sixteen years old and I'm taken care of a six year old boy named Tommy. Tommy has blond hair and greenish blue eyes, and as you can see, we happen to be homeless.

"You have to eat today." Tommy exclaimed, stumbling down the sidewalk with me.

"Look, if there is enough after you get full, then I'll eat. If not, then I wont." I looked both ways before we crossed the street.

"But-" He started.

"No buts. That's just the way it has to happen. Besides, I'll manage" I said sadly, but managed to smile at him. It was true, I hadn't eaten in two days, but I had to keep him fed. Even if it meant going without food for a couple days.

We would look too suspicious if we walked in a store looking the way we look. Everything we wore was raggedy with holes in them, down to our shoes. They would just assume that we didn't have any money and wouldn't let us past the entrance. I would have to steal us some new clothes, soon, along with some food.
