60 years later
Linda's pov
I still can't push off the feeling that I'm missing something. Nobody can tell me the complete story because the one I'd shared it with is dead. I need to know. Even as I am breathing my last breaths this is the only thing I can think off.
On the foot of my bed, my wife- Jimena is sitting and watching me lovingly, holding my hand. My children- one daughter, one son: Liana and Nathan are pacing around with tears on their faces. We all know that my time has come. But I just can't let go. The forgotten memories are tying me down to this world. The shadows of the memories through which I have walked are trying to morph into the real thing. Something. There must be something that will bring my memories. back.
"Guys..."
"Mom?" they both stopped walking around.
"I love you two. I'll always be there okay?"
"We love you too mom. And we know."
"Jime, take care my love."
Jimena smiled and gripped her hand tighter... "You are thinking of the memories again aren't you?"
"You know me too well."
"Of course I do. Linda... today's November 16th and I know that, it means nothing to you but... it's an important date. And also... I found something this morning that might help you remember."
She opened the bedside drawer and pulled out something, I opened my hand and she placed the necklace there.
I gazed at it, trying to read the words with my blurry vision, the sides slowly starting to go black.
'are Infinite'
It was half of an infinity symbol, I don't know how but I suddenly found the rest of the sentence on my tongue,
"Amara we are Infinite."
I fumbled with it and quickly clasped it around my neck.
Jimena smiled.
"Jime?"
"Yes honey?"
"I remember."
And with content wrapped around my heart, I closed my purple eyes forever.
And there she was in all her glory, my Hals, with her hand extended for me again. She was wearing her half of the pendant too. And this time I took it. With no hesitation. When our hands joined so did our pendants, making the infinity sign complete. I looked at myself and in the clouds of heaven that were so polished that they reflected like mirrors. I was fifteen again. She pulled me into paradise with her, and I finally got the infinite more that I was promised so many years ago.
So yeah. As you can see... I am straight.
As straight as the infinity symbol.
