"Can I try some of that?"
"Eat your own food."
"You let Nora have some!"
"And?"
Lolah inhales a deep breath of annoyance, and I scoot the tray on my lap a little closer to my torso, watching the sibling fight go on.
Shockingly, Lolah actually wanted my company, and invited me over for a very late dinner at her hotel room. Aidan, wanting to join in on the meal, traded him buying food in exchange for a seat at the couch.
I texted Annalise the moment I got in the car, telling her where I was (sort of) and that I wouldn't need a ride back to her apartment, so she could enjoy the rest of her night (and if her date went well, I had no doubt that's exactly what she would be doing).
Reaching over, I grab a hand full of the fries that were resting on Aidan's plate, and place them on Lolah's, watching his eyes narrow at me.
"How could you?" He asks, his eyes trained on mine, waiting for me to answer.
"Nora, how does the last name Galinter sound to you?" Lolah cuts in, popping a French fry in her mouth, and I shrug.
"It's a nice last name." I supply, and Aidan wiggles his eyebrows at me, which wins him a swat on the arm.
"Great, because I'm hosting auditions for a new twin, and I think you might be the best fit." She tells me, ignoring her brother's gesture completely.
"Yeah, Nora, you might have to take my spot. Lolah gets sad almost every night when she remembers that she has no chance in reaching her twin brother's level of success, and I think you could help her with that by taking my spot."
"Just because you're going to college doesn't mean you're smarter than me." She retorts, as if this was a conversation they had had before.
"Actually, I think it kind of does. Unless you're studying law- or medicine, like me- I've got to say that I'm the smarter twin." Aidan says with a shrug, clearly only saying this to get on his sister's nerves, and Lolah takes a breath of annoyance once again.
"Don't you think you're being insulting to Nora? Unless she's studying law, of course."
Um, actually, I kind of am. Is almost my response, but I didn't exactly want Aidan to win this argument, so I simply shake my head and take a sip through my straw, as if the idea was impossible.
"My bad, Nora. I'm only joking. It's just a painful experience to watch your sister's success rise and realize you'll never be able to do anything to catch up."
"Uck, shut up. You love every bit of this tour." Lolah responds, grasping the remote and turning the tv on to a familiar late night show that was actually in English.
"What about it?" Aidan asks, and Lolah shrugs, still looking at the tv.
"More who's than what's, actually."
Aidan lets out a fake laugh at Lolah's response before eating the rest of his fries as I tune into the show.
"Next up we have upcoming singer slash songwriter, here to talk about her new EP 'Sound Thoughts', please welcome Lolah Galinter!"
Aidan begins to clap as his sister walks across the stage in a white dress, and I laugh before joining him.
"Oh my gosh, I look hideous."
