Chapter Ten ~ Trust
An hour later, I heard my phone ring from under my pillow. Passing through the pile of papers scattered across I grabbed it before letting myself fall back on the bed.
Maddie was calling. Hmmm, should I answer? Of course, I should.
I pressed accept before pressing the phone to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hi Riya! What's up?"
"Homework." I sighed, "The usual."
"Ew no. Okay, if you had to choose between homework and a movie, what would you choose?"
"Probably finish my homework and then watch a movie?"
"What? No! You're supposed to throw your homework in the trash and watch the movie!"
"Or maybe I can bring the homework to the theaters...do you think they'd let me?"
I heard her disgusted scoff from the other side of the line. "You're unbelievable. So I'm guessing that's a no?"
"I would love to, I'm almost finished anyway, but not today, I'm tutoring these middle schoolers in math at the library in like, half an hour. But hey! You should come and keep me company...please?"
"Nuh uh. Me and math are a big fat no no. We always end up in a fight."
"Please?" I begged, staring up at the starry ceiling. I mean, I loved loved loved tutoring these kids, but it could never hurt to bring her there. I've always wanted to show someone these bright kids that literally make my day every Tuesday.
"Well, what it's in it for me?"
"Um, knowing that you are helping those in need?"
She laughed, "You're playing that card? Really?"
"Please? Just come." Something clicked in my mind and I smiled mischievously. "Harry is gonna be there..."
That definitely perked her up, "Harry?" She would babble on and on about him during class. Harry was kind of like the hot computer guy with sexy glasses that Maddy was practically head over heels for but just never had the guts to talk to.
"Yup! I tutor his younger brother and their mom makes him watch his brother."
"What?! How could you not tell me!"
"Sorry! I forget every time. It's like he isn't even there sometimes. Just a shadow in the corner."
"I forgive you, I'm in! But you better be right or shit's about to go down."
"I promise."
"Sweet! I'll be at your house in 15—,"
"Wait! Maddie, wait—," she hung up and I sighed, "you don't even know my address."
I pressed my lips into an amused smile as I waited for her call.
Seconds later she called and I picked up. I heard her clear her throat awkwardly, "Um, Riya?"
"Yes...?" I asked grinning.
"Uh where do you live?"
"Really?" I mocked shockingly, "Is that really a crucial piece of information? I didn't know!"
