"Do you think he's going to make it?" I asked Steve as we watched the surgery, a sigh following, showing how distressed I was.
This man did so much for me. He gave me a clean slate, he wiped my record. He gave me a job, he gave me a home. He gave me the Avengers, yet he was being taken away so quickly.
"I don't know." Steve shook his head, looking over at me as I watched the Director being poked over and over again. The cloth over his body bloodied as well as the surgical tools. "What was the shooter like?"
"He was really fast, I didn't think I'd be able to catch up with him. He's really strong. He punched through a piece of solid concrete like it was nothing." I explained to the captain. Maria Hill walked in, standing on the other side of me. "What were the ballistics?" I asked out, unable to tear my eyes from the scene.
"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable." She muttered.
"Oh my god." I spoke hardly above a whisper. I looked over to Steve, meeting his eyes. I think I know who the killer is.
When Nick's heart beat sped up I turned around and shook my head. I exited the visitor room as the flat line rang in my ears, haunting me. Steve quickly followed me out, running after me down the halls.
"Andie." He called out.
"I know who killed Nick Fury." I muttered, hardly able to meet his gaze. But I reached out my hand and tugged him to the corner of the hall. "His name is the Winter Soldier." I explained, speaking abnormally fast, my words rushed.
"All of his victims were the same, the metal arm, the untraceable ballistics. He came out of no where in the fifties, maybe even late forties. His number of kills is more than any other assassin I had to study in my criminology course at S.H.I.E.L.D. for training." I explained. I paused for a second, seeing Steve looking tense. "You're hiding something." I stated, pokerfaced.
"Why would I hide something?" He asked me as if I was crazy.
"What is one thing that Fury set someone up to do and wanted it to remain a secret, probably because he hasn't found a way to hack in yet?" I asked him.
"I have no clue, Andie." Steve furrowed his brows.
"You're right." I nodded. "I'm going nuts." I shook my head. "It's been a long night."
"Cap, they want you back at S.H.I.E.L.D." Rumlow ran dow the hall.
"Yeah, give me one second." Steve nodded before turning back to me.
"They want you now." He said once more.
"Okay." Steve spoke a little sternly before Rumlow turned to leave.
"By the way, you suck at lying, Steve." I smiled sweetly before leaving.
"S.T.R.I.K.E. team, escort Captain Rogers back to S.H.I.E.L.D. immediately for questioning." Sitwell's voice rang over the intercom.
I turned a hallway and waited a good ten minutes. Once I was sure the Captain left I sat in front of the vending machine. Five pieces of gum. Well I guess I'm going to spend five dollars today on gum.
~~~
I watched as Steve rounded a corner, hardly noticing me. He wore a hoodie this time to cover his face as by the way I heard people talking in the halls.
He was a wanted man. He walked over to the vending machine. His jaw dropped as he saw all the gum was gone.
I walked behind him and blew a bright pink bubble. He turned around to face me, gripping my arm tightly and backing me into a janitors closet, closing the door behind us.
