Autumn

I woke up to a loud noise coming from downstairs, almost like a pan or a pot falling on the ground. I shot out of my bed and grabbed my metal baseball bat that I keep in my room, running downstairs. I went into the kitchen, ready to hit a robber, only to find my mom picking up a pan from the ground.

I sighed in relief. "Oh, hey mom. " I said, hiding my bat behind my back.

"Hi sweetie, sorry did I wake you up?" she said.

"Well.. kinda." I admitted.

"Aw, I'm sorry." She said. "Go back to bed."

I noticed that it was 4 in the morning. I had only had another hour till I had to get ready. I went back to my room, laying on my bed and closing my eyes, but I couldn't fall asleep. I thought about yesterday, and how when Jason grabbed my hand to help me up I got that weird feeling in my hand. I looked at my hand, which was hard since it was still pretty dark. Then I realized how stupid that was, like looking at my hand is going to help me know why I got that weird feeling. Lightly laughing to myself at how stupid I am, I grabbed my phone to try to get rid of some of my boredom. I ended up playing 'Flappy Bird' for the rest of the hour until it was time for me to get ready.

I skipped down the stairs and went into the kitchen. I was surprised to see my mom still home. "Are you off today?"

"Yeah, I am." She said.

"Good." I said and gave her a one-arm hug, kissing her cheek.

"I made you breakfast." She said, handing me a plate of scrambled eggs and bacon.

"Thank you." I said and grabbed a fork, sitting down at the table.

I ate my breakfast then I went back up to my room to get ready. I stripped out of my pajamas and changed into a pair of skinny jeans and a grey sweater that said 'Music>reality'. I brushed through my tangled hair and braided it on the side so it rested on my shoulder. After I brushed my teeth I put my contacts in and slipped on my grey Vans, then I was ready to go.

I grabbed my backpack and my phone, slipping it into my back pocket of my jeans. I jogged down the stairs and looked for my mom, spotting her in the living room. "I gotta go, see ya after school." I told her, kissing her cheek.

"Alright sweetie, have a good day!" she said, turning back to her program on the tv.

As soon as I got to school I was greeted by Amy and Emily.

"Hey girl!" Emily said.

"Hey!" Amy said.

"Hey guys." I greeted them as I hugged both of them. "What's up?"

"Nothin', but we heard that Jason is throwing a party tonight." Emily told me.

"Okay..?" I said, not really caring what he was doing tonight.

"We should go!" Amy exclaimed.

"We weren't even invited." I reminded her.

"But-"

"Autumn!" A deep voice called from behind me, interrupting her. Then Jason was next to me.

"Hi."

"I'm having a party tonight, you and your friends can come if you want." He said.

"Oh, well-"

"We'll be there." Emily interrupted me.

"Alright, cool." Jason said. "See you in class, Autumn." Then he walked away.

The way my name rolled off his tongue made my knees go weak, I leaned against the wall so I wouldn't collapse, but I made it seem like I was just casually leaning against the wall and not about to faint.

"O.M.G! We got invited!" Amy squealed.

"Yay.." I said, but I didn't sound close excited.

"Oh come on, Autumn. Don't be such a party pooper." Emily said.

"I'm not being a party pooper, I'm just not being a party animal either." I argued. "I don't like parties."

"Too bad, you're going." Amy insisted.

I sighed, knowing I couldn't win. "Come on, let's just get to class."

"Why so eager to get to class?" Emily asked. "Is it so you can see Jason?"

"No! I just want to get away from you guys." I said, walking off to my locker.

I love them, but damn, they can be pushy and annoying. But they're my best friends, that's what best friends do.

~~

When I walked into class I was one of the first few. The class was basically still empty. I took my seat and started reading 'Eclipse'. This is my third time reading it now, but it's my favorite of the Twilight Saga. The bell rang, but I didn't bother to look up, I just kept reading.

"Hey." A deep, husky voice said beside me.

"Hi." I replied, continuing to read.

"What are you reading?" he asked, taking the book out of my hands.

"Hey!" I said, trying to grab it back, he he had it out of reach.

"Twilight? Really?"

"It's not Twilight, it's Eclipse. Can't you read?" I said, snatching my book back.

"It's part of the Twilight Series though, and yes, I can read." He said. "I just don't like to."

Before I could reply, Ms. Brown began her lesson about the government and politics.

After school, I put my calculus textbook away and shut my locker. I turned around to walk away, but Jason was standing there.

"Oh." I said, taken by surprise. "Hi."

"Hey." He said, leaning against the locker next to mine. "You comin' to my party tonight?"

"I guess." I said.

"You guess? What's that suppose to mean?" he asked.

I rolled my eyes. "Yes, I'm going."

"Okay." He said. Then he mumbled, "You could've just said that." But I don't think I was suppose to hear that.

I adjusted my backpack so it fit comfortably on my shoulder and began walking towards the exit.

"Can I get your number?" Jason asked, running up beside me. "So I can text you my address."

"Um... yeah, sure." I said.

"Here." He said, taking out a pen. "Just write it on my hand."

I took the pen out of his hand and grabbed his hand, the weird, tingly feeling going up my arm. I ignored it and wrote my number on his large hand.

"There." I said, handing the pen back.

"Thanks." He said, putting the pen in his pocket. We walked out of the school together, getting stares from everyone, but Jason didn't seem to care. "So I'll see you tonight?"

"Yep." I said.

"Alright, bye." He said, walking away.

"Bye." I mumbled, knowing he wouldn't hear me even if I spoke up.
