Autumn
When I arrived at school the next day I was immediately greeted with glares from all the girls, as usual. I'm not exaggerating when I say all the girls-well, at least all the girls I saw. I sheepishly continued on my way to my locker with my head down.
I was surprised when I saw Jason waiting for me at my locker. "Jason, what's up?" I asked awkwardly.
"I was wondering..." he began, scratching the back of his head. "If you wanted to hang you today after school."
My heart started pounding and my hands became clamy as I processed what he just asked me. He wanted to hang out with me?
"Y-yeah." I stammered. "I'd love to."
He grinned from ear-to-ear at those last 3 words. "Cool." I unlocked my locker and grabbed my textbook for Ms. Brown's class. "I gotta go, I'll see you in class."
"Okay, bye."
"Bye, Autumn."
I sighed in content as I watched him walk away.
"So... how did it go with Seth?" I heard one of my best friends ask from behind me.
I turned around to face Emily. "It was good." I noticed Amy wasn't with her. "Where's Amy?"
"She's sick."
"Oh."
"Yeah, but what's up with you and Jason?" she asked, wiggling her eyebrows with a smirk on her lips.
"Nothing really, we're just hanging out after school today."
"You call that nothing?!" she asked in disbelief.
I shrugged. "It's not a big deal, its not like its a date or anything."
"Two hot guys in one week." Emily said dreamily. "Girl you're becoming a whore!"
"Shut up!" I yelled, smacking her arm. "No I'm not!"
"Whatever you say." She sang playfully and winked. "Anyways, I gotta go to class. Bye, whore!"
"Bye, bitch!" I giggled as she walked away.
~~
Lunch was a little weird for me since Amy wasn't here, it was just Emily and me.
"So..." I started, making an attempt to spark up a conversation.
"Are you with Seth, or with Jason?" she suddenly asked.
"I'm not with either of them."
"So are you just like, friends with benefits with both of them or something?"
"What?! No?!" I shrieked. "We are just friends."
She sighed. "Whatever, but do you like one of them?"
I shrugged. "I mean, I know for sure I don't like Seth like that. But Jason, I don't know. It's complicated."
"Ooh." She cooed. "You like Jason! Aw!"
"Shut up!" I exclaimed. "And no I don't... at least I think I don't." I looked behind me at the table where Jason sits, he was laughing and jokig with his friends. Suddenly he met my gaze, making me blush and look back at Emily and she smirked at me. "I don't know! I'm confused!"
"Come on, admit it." She said. "You like him."
I shrugged. "Can we just stop talking about him?"
She sighed and mumbled, "Fine."
~~
After school I met up with Jason in the parking lot by his car (after I texted my mom telling her I was hanging out with a friend right after school so she wouldn't freak out again). He was leaned up against the hood on his phone, so he didn't notice me right away. I cleared my throat and his head snapped up to look at me.
"Oh, hey Autumn." He said, quickly stuffing his phone into his pocket and standing up straight.
"Hey."
"So... shall we?" he chuckled nervously.
I couldn't help but lightly laugh at how nervous he was, it was adorable. "Yeah." He nodded and went to the driver's side while I got in the passenger's side. "So... where are we going?"
He shrugged. "I don't know, where do you want to go?"
"Um..." I thought for a moment, not really caring where we went, but he wanted me to choose. "What about that pond you brought me to the other day?"
"Sure." He agreed and pulled out of the school parking lot.
~~
We went to the pond and just talked. I got I know a little more about Jason; like how his parents died when he was about 6 years old and him and Alex had to live in an orphanage. But they escaped after about 3 years.
I told him about my dad, which was new for me because I haven't told anyone; not even Emily or Amy. It felt nice to open up to someone about it, even though it's been 17 years, I was still upset that I've never met my dad. I might have cried a little in front of him-or a lot- but he didn't judge me for it since he went through the same thing, but worse.
We talked for what seemed like hours, and surprisingly, I was enjoying myself. Jason isn't as bad as I thought, he's just been through some rough times.
When we noticed it was starting to get dark he drove me back home. He walked me to my front door after pulling into my driveway.
"So... I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked.
"Yeah, considering we have school and we have first period together."
"Right."
We just stood there for a minute, staring at each other. Finally snapping out of my daze I grabbed my keys out I my backpack. "Well, I should probably-"
"Oh, yeah." He said, scratching the back of his neck and slowly backing away. "Bye, Autumn."
"Bye Jason." I said as I unlocked my door, but before I opened it, I pulled Jason in for a hug, which surprised me just as much as it surprised him. "Thank for today." I mumbled into his chest.
He hesitantly wrapped his arms around my waist, burying his face in my hair. "Thanks for agreeing to hang out with me."
I pulled away, blushing as I realized what I just did. "Bye."
"Bye."
