5 years later
I sat in the shoe box apartment I called my home wrapped in my fuzzy blanket drinking my coffee. The sun wasn't even up yet, it was that time of morning were you can tell the sun is on its way but there's no sunlight to be found. My favorite time of day. All my records were laid around me along with books about other places around the work, cook books, story books, everything. I looked outside my balcony that was covered in fake plants and listened as cars passed by, zooming to wherever they needed to be.
The only way I was able to afford a place here in Cali was because, as it turned out, I had a really rich grandma, bless her heart. We weren't close or anything but when I turned 18 she gave me my trust fund. My dad didn't even know about it, none of it. And at first he was skeptical about letting me have so much money at my finger tips, and it's a lot of money, but he soon became okay with the idea. What he did hate was when I finally decided to move out, but of course I did it because he met someone. She moved in around my 19th birthday which was when I decided to move out. I had enough money to my name to live off for the rest of my life. I graduated early and started college early before I moved here. I transferred to the local college here in California and began learning new recipes to cook. It's the perfect life, I even have a perfect boyfriend, Evan.
Evan is actually three years older than me. He's graduated college and actually has a secured spot in his father's company. His father just so happens to be the owner of the biggest hotel chain the US. Evan's supposed to be taking over his own building sometime in the near future. Like I said, the perfect life.
I sat there sipping my coffee, watching Evan sleep peacefully in my bed, anxiously waiting for the day to begin. Evan had the day off but I had so many things to do. I had class at 8 then I had work at the bookshop at 12 and then after work I had to go shopping for a dress because Even decided to wait to tell me about a banquet we were supposed to attend for his work. And I would have been fine with that had he told me two weeks before instead of two days before. But that wasn't the only thing keeping me from sleeping, sleep that I not only wanted but needed.
It was him, Harry. Over the past five years a lot had happened. I became a wealthy individual and Harry became famous. Somehow a video of him singing got posted somewhere and next thing I knew his face was all over social media, magazines, he was even on some talk shows. He was an "over night sensation". Obviously it took more than one night for him to become so popular but the point is, he is. And that's fine, but now he's in town for a week, according to his twitter. Not only is he staying in my town, but he's staying at Evan's hotel. I was fine with seeing his face all over my phone and blogs but I'm not sure how I'll handle it if I run into him on the street. The last time I saw him was the last time I was at our high school. I was clearing out my locker and he caught me.
He had gone to the bathroom and since his class was in the same hall as my locker he found me. He came out and was confused on why I was doing what I was doing. When I explained to him that I had enough credits to graduate early he looked hurt, but I left without doing or saying much more, just a goodbye. After that he was pretty much out of my life.
I don't worry too much considering he's a famous star, I doubt he'd even leave the hotel and there's no way I'm going there. But I doubt he even remembers me.
But maybe he does, maybe he thinks of me sometimes, how close we once were. I was supposed to be there to see him get famous and watch him blossom into the person I always knew he would be. Those times and those promises seem so far away now, lost in the past. If he's still the same Harry I know he thinks about how I'm not there with him. Back when he first told me about his dream to be a singer, he told me that if it ever happened he would buy a house wherever I wanted and that would be our place. A place where it was just us. He promised, too.
Before long it was soon time to start getting ready for school. I grabbed all my necessities and kissed Evan goodbye even though he was still snuggled up into my blankets.
With those thoughts still on my mind I made my way to only class for that day. The walk was short, just a few blocks away. I sat through a lecture, trying to take notes but Harry's face kept popping into my mind. When the professor was finally done I gathered my things and began my way to the book shop. I had some time to kill so I stopped at this luxurious store to try and find a dress for the dinner. When I walked I felt every single employee's eye on me. They were all think the same thing, that I a poor girl who couldn't afford their cheapest dress, being $500. There guess is understandable considering I'm wearing jeans and white t-shirt I cut up. That didn't matter to me though, so I began looking through the racks of sparkled dresses and satin dresses and tried to find the perfect one.
"Can I help you?" A blond worker asked me. Her hair was pinned up perfectly and makeup was flawless.
"I'm just looking," I paused when I saw the dress. It was a red wine, floor length, all satin dress with matching scarf to hang off my arms. "Actually, may I try that on?"
She looked at the dress then back at me with concerned eyes. "I don't think you'd be interested in that, maybe something from next door?" She gave her best snooty smile she could and I looked at her completely confused.
"What do you mean, not interested...?"
"Well, ma'am, that dress is $800." She said quietly.
"I'd like to try it on."
The lady gave my a look but got someone to take it off the mannequin and show me to a dressing room. It fit perfectly, too. The heels didn't matter too much because you wouldn't see them but I had a pair of silver ones that would look perfect with it.
I took the dress off and checked the time. I had 30 minutes before I had to be at work. I walked out of the dressing room and the same lady waited by patiently. "How was it?" She asked, expecting me to say 'thank you' and tell her it wasn't for me.
"It fit perfectly, I'll take it," I smiled and the lady looked dumbfounded.
"Are you sure? It's an $800 dollar dress."
My eye caught a beautiful diamond necklace, simple, but beautiful. "Yes, and that." I pointed to the necklace.
Once she rung me up for everything and I paid I told her I'd have someone pick everything up for me later just to mess with her. I'd probably just send one of Evan's assistants to get it. Even though I was out a good chunk of money, it was totally worth the look on all their faces.
