"What," gasped Aphron as his fur bristled and he bared his teeth in the beginning of a snarl.
"I am your father," repeated Qutuk slower in case Aphron didn't understand if the first time.
"I don't believe you," snapped Aphron as he spat on the ground. He was about to leap for Qutuk but Morali bolted in front of his brother to stop him from leaping at his father.
"Why would he lie," Morali asked as he looked into his brother's eyes. "It doesn't make sense. He must be telling the truth."
Aphron then stalked forward and tilted his head in confusion before he stalked forward. "Why did you give us up then," Aphron asked as he lashed his tail and his eyes narrowed to slits. "And where's our mother!"
"Your mother is dead," Qutuk confessed as he hung his head and tears streamed down his face but he tried to hide them. "She died soon after you were born." He then pointed his muzzle to Thor and Loki who were growing increasingly uncomfortable. "Odin then came and I asked if he would take you two. I'm so glad that you're grown up to be such handsome wolves!"
Aphron had never thought of himself as handsome but a compliment from his father who had given him away didn't mean that much to him. "Why didn't you ever visit or send a note?"
Qutuk drew back a bit in shock. "I had planned to visit you but it just never happened. I've been busy here."
"Here what," asked Morali as he lowered his head into his shoulders. "I know you're alpha of the pack but don't you have to always be here."
"Were we failures," asked Aphron as he strode toward the fire. He felt the warmth on his wings and he spread them out. "Is that why you didn't care?"
Qutuk spun on him and shook his head vigorously. "That's not true at all! I love you both more than words can express. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when you were growing up but I know you are in safe hands."
Aphron breathed on the fire and more flames lapped up toward Aphron's muzzle. "It doesn't mean that we didn't want a father figure with four paws."
Qutuk pushed toward Aphron but Aprhon was still on guard. He leaped back and plastered his ears against his head. "We can't change the past now."
Aphron growled a bit, his lip curling. "I don't want to ever see you again! You're a pack alpha and yet you can't even keep track of your own son."
He turned and darted out of the den with anger flooding from his pelt. Morali sighed and turned to his father. "I'm sorry for my brother's attitude. He's always been a little more er sensitive."
Qutuk sighed and fed more kindling to the fire. "Just get out of here! I don't want to see either of you again."
Morali felt coldness and numbness rush through his whole body. His eyes widened in shock and he hobbled toward the entrance. "F-Fine," he stammered as he felt a sob rise in his throat. "Some father who were."
