"Aphron. Aphron wake up."

Aphron heard a gentle voice that sounded like a she-wolf. He lifted his head and saw a beautiful she-wolf with glorious wings standing in front of him.

"Who are you," asked Aphron as he rushed to his paws and gasped in shock. "And what do you want with me?"

The she-wolf's eyes softened and she strode forward. "You don't know me but I know you," she breathed as she touched her nose to Aphron's trembling forehead.

A name flashed through Aphron's mind, a name he didn't know. "Aphron," breathed the she-wolf. "I'm your mother."

Aphron's eyes widened in shock and took a step back. "But you're dead," he argued as he shook his head madly. "This must be a dream."

The she-wolf shook her head. "I promise you it's not. I'm your mother Aphron and I'm here to tell you not to lose hope."

Aphron lifted his muzzle to be level with hers. "The wolf I love is with someone else. My father is dead and I found out he doesn't even care about me. I don't think I have any hope left."

"Please don't shut down," begged Aphron's mother with gentle eyes. "I love you too much to lose you."

Aphron frowned and shook his head. "I'm not worth anything to anyone," he argued as he gave his body a stern shake. "I know this now, you don't."

"You are not useless," she argued sternly. "You are my son and I love you too much just to watch you slowly die!"

Aphron spun on her, his claws extended. "You don't know what it's like to be me, to be your own worst enemy. Try living with that every day," Aphron challenged as he let his fur bristle.

"Aphron I just want-"

Aphron flicked his tail to dismiss her. "If you're anything like my father I don't want your advice."

The she-wolf sighed and stepped back. "Don't give into the bitterness, that's now who you are."

Aphron shook his head. "It's who I am now."
