FLASHBACK
I moved my fingers nervously on my screen, texting Neesha to let her know I'd be there in a few minutes. As I glanced left and right, I suddenly saw Violet in the middle of the road.
"Violet, watch out!" I shouted.
Before I could react, Neesha shoved me out of the way. I tumbled to the ground, rolling twice until I hit the edge of the sidewalk. At the same time, I heard a loud thump, like something had hit metal, and screams erupted all around me. Confused, I opened my eyes.
"Violet," I gasped, my eyes fixed on her motionless body.
"Violet, don't do this!" I pleaded, pushing her, thinking it was some sick joke. The blood beneath her looked unreal, like red paint splattered everywhere.
Someone tightly grasped my wrist.
"STOP THIS!" Neesha's face was blank. "She's dead," she said with a crack in her voice, and then she fell to the ground beside me, releasing her grip on me. I stared at Violet's lifeless face, and it finally hit me. I realized that what I was looking at was not just a mask of sudden terror, but the truth. Violet was dead.
I don't know why, but I felt a wave of agony and regret wash over me, despite all the pain Violet had caused me throughout my life. She was one of the people who hurt me the most. But that's all in the past now. I still remember the day Violet would come and push me or spill coffee on my white shirt. I would beg her to leave me alone, but it seemed like everything just started all over again.
Violet may have been mean to me, but she didn't deserve to die.
Ever since then, everyone started accusing me for Violet's death. They all put the blame on me, and it felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders.
And then, just two weeks later, my parents were involved in a devastating car accident. It was a terrible blow, and it left me in a difficult financial situation. With all the accusations and the burden of my parents' accident, I couldn't bear going to school anymore.
