✾Ruby's pov

Sunshine peered through my satin curtains causing me to rise from my slumber. I was rubbing the sleep out my eyes when last night's memories came flooding in.

Fuck my life.

I turned on my phone to check the time, my eyes widened at the sight of my lockscreen, first period was going to start in fifteen minutes. I got up to get ready when my mum entered the room.

"Ruby, you're not going to school today."

I looked at her confused.

"I came to check on you last night and you have a fever."

"But mum, I can't skip."

"You'll have to, baby. It's just one day."

I look at her, sighed and got back into bed.

"Aww, cheer up. I'm making corn soup.", She smiled and left the room.

I just lied there looking at the celling.

-

I had spent the entire day, playing video games and napping. I was still pretty sad about last night.

Hell is other people.

My mum had been taking care of me all day but she had to go to her night shift, she worked as a pharmaceutical rep. I reassured her that I'll be alright and that she doesn't have to worry one bit.

"Mum, I'll be okay. I promise. I'll keep you posted."

"I feel so bad for leaving you like this."

"No, don't be. I'll be alright."

I kissed her goodbye and she left. I was about to go shower when my phone started ringing. The caller ID showed Cole's name. I didn't attend the call. Then it buzzed, I picked it up.
He had texted me.

C: we need 2 talk. It's important.

You can't ignore him forever, Ruby.

I sighed and texted back,

Me: fine, come over.

After sending him that text, I ran into the bathroom to make myself look presentable.

Wow, you look like shit.

I changed into a black crop top that had the text "babygirl" written on it in pink with some camouflage printed pajamas. I was brushing my hair when my phone buzzed.

C: open the door.

That's my que.

I ran downstairs and peeked through the window. He was leaning against the front door pillar with a cigarette pressed against his lips and his messy hair hanging on his forehead. I open the front door and there he stood. He took out the cigarette from his mouth and didn't really blow out the smoke. This time instead he let it flow out of his mouth. The smoke was more thick and white and I just stood there in amazement.

"Come in.", I say and leave the door open for him.

"Thanks."

We both go upstairs to my room and I sit on the couch with my phone in my hand, not paying much attention to him.

"Ruby." He says in a low voice and sits right next to me.

I look at him.

"I'm sorry, Ruby. I really am."

"Okay."

"It was just a spur of the moment kind of thing."

I look away.
