The three of us walked to our left and into the girls' locker room to find that most of the team was already in there, and as usual, already gossiping. Sometimes, it's nice to know things haven't changed much since you were last here. This is not one of those times. Most of the girls on the team are extremely shallow. They all just care about boys, drama, and what is the newest thing to try at Starbucks. All of them, that is, except Andy. She's on the other aisle of lockers, trying to be as far from them as possible. I can't say I blame her. I feel the same way. We go to join her at our usual lockers, like we always have.
"So what's all the buzz about, Andrea?" Erin asks, putting extra emphasis on each sylable of her name, knowing that it will annoy the crap out of her.
Andy brushed her short black hair out of her brown eyes so that the deadly scowl she is well known for could be even more noticible. Even though she is only a little over five feet tall, she is a compact little ball of fire. She then says through gritted teeth, "You know I hate that name and I refuse to go by it."
Andy continues until Erin caves. She rolls her eyes, but corrects herself. "Ugh fine. Have it your way, but you need to lighten up or this is gonna be a long season. What's all the buzz about, Andy?"
Andy looks back into from her bag, in which she was digging through when we arrived, and pulls out her purple splattered swimsuit. She looks at us and begins to speak in a way that was mocking the other girls. "Well, Supposedly Brittany saw this really hot new boy walk into the boys locker-room. And then Linda confirmed it." andy pretended to gag. "It's all they seem to be able to talk about. It's pathetic really. "
I put my two sense in." Wait. Back up. Someone actually wants to be here? Volentarily? That's a first."
"I know right?" Andy agrees. " First coach Brent is here on time and now people are actually wanting to swim? The apocalypse must be upon us! Save yourselves while you still can! Tell my dog I love him."
"That poor soul has no idea what he's getting himself into," I say.
"The dog?" Erin asks.
I give her my 'are you freaking serious' look. "No, the boy. Duh."
Andy, Erin and I laugh, but Arianna smacks me with a towel. "You guys are so rude. Some of us actually enjoy swimming, you know"
"And some of us actually have a life you know, " Erin says back, after she manages to squeeze into last year's competition suit( It was blue with class marks and had been far more snug than the suits were intended).
We all laugh until Arianna points out that we're all here so apparently none of us have lives. She does have a point. As of today, none of us will be doing anything social for the next four months. Just swimming, lap after lap after lap. I guess then its a good thing that I honestly have nothing better to do anyways.
"Are you guys gonna get ready, or just stand there?" Andy puts in, since she is already dressed. She tucked her cap and goggles into the side of her suit and placed her hands on her hips, impatiently waiting on us.
I slip my Dolphin Ugly suit on slowly, regretting it more and more as the tight contraption strangles my body. It feels like a snake squeezing the life out me. I go into a side pocket on my bag and find my cap and goggles. I let out a final sigh as I follow my friends out of the locker room. "I guess I might as well as get this over with."
