They arrived an hour before the lessons started at Andrea's. The green pastures lied peacefully in the morning sun and a fresh breeze moved the leaves of the old oak tree next to the ring. They saddled two of the horses that Linette would not be going to use for lessons and mounted them. They started off with a walk, smiling at each other and breathing deep on the fresh morning air. Then they went over in a trot, then a canter, just to switch over into a full gallop.
Linette looked so carefree and happy with her brown hair blowing in the wind. He wished that he would be able to see her always like that. She is still reminding him of a lily in her pink top and riding boots. They went over to a canter when they neared the fence and turned around, trotting in a wide circle. "This is so nice, I missed it." She called out to him.
"Me too." He called back, as they went into a gallop once again. When they neared the ring, they slowed into a canter and a trot, ending up walking to the gate. They removed their tack from the horses and took them for a drink of water before leading them to the pastures. "They can spend the morning here, we'll brush them down after the lessons," Linette said with a smile. Then she took his hand and led him to Anne and Bruce, who was waiting under the old oak tree.
"Meet my boyfriend Gregory," she said to Anne and Bruce. "These are my friends Anne and Bruce."
"Pleased to meet you," Gregory said, as he shook Bruce's hand and gave Anne a light hug.
"Same here," Bruce said with admiration as he noticed Gregory's well-built body and tanned skin.
"So that's what makes you tick," Anne laughed at Linette and said: "Pleased to meet you too, Gregory.
Gregory joined Bruce on the bench under the tree while the girls continued with their lessons.
"Anne look so nice on that horse, I think I'm going to take a photo and store it on my cell phone."
"Good idea, I'll do the same."
"Can we hang out together when Linette finished her lessons? I think Anne will like that, she felt bad for Linette, since she helped us to get together while her own boyfriend is out of town."
"I think Linette would like it too, she joked about the bully and the nerd that became her best friends." Gregory laughed as Bruce's face turned red.
"Well then I have to make up for her trouble by inviting you for a picnic at our swimming pool, are you game?"
"Can't think of any better way to spend a hot summer's afternoon," Gregory said.
"We'll take the girls home to fetch their bathing suits and get the stuff for the picnic from the grocery store. Prepare yourself for some fun, you can borrow one of my bathing shorts."
"That sounds good," Gregory said, thinking that Bruce actually turned out to be a nice guy.
The girls were pleasantly surprised by their plans for the afternoon. After another two lessons, they went to Bruce's place for a wonderful afternoon, swimming, playing in the water, and chatting the time away, while enjoying the picnic food.
Bruce lived not far away from Linette. They thanked Bruce and Anne for the wonderful day and walked home hand in hand.
"What a wonderful day, I can live a few weeks on these special memories," Linette said, searching Gregory's face.
"Me too and I have a gorgeous photo to remind me," Gregory smiled.
"No!" Linette cried and her face turned red.
"Let me show you." He laughed at her when she relaxed as she saw herself on the horse.
"I thought it was of me in my bathing suit."
He smiled at her and gave her a big hug. "I'll keep that for later, and only with your permission, I promise." Then he kissed her tenderly. "Goodnight my lily and don't forget I love you."
"Remember I love you more." She said after she caught her breath.
