A knock at the door.

I sat upright in my bed, startled. The sun was shining and the birds twittering outside my window. But I couldn't bring myself to enjoy it.

"Come in," I called out, trying not to look flustered. Abigail carefully opened the door and stumbled inside. "I came to bring you breakfast Lady Catherine, I didn't bring much, though." she said stepping inside and closing the door. I sighed and muttered "You don't have to bring it up to me Abigail. You know I don't have an appetite. Not since..." I trailed off, I know she knows what I meant. "I know, I know. But if you would only try to have some, you never came down to breakfast and I was afraid you were starving yourself so I had to bring it up for you. I mean you have barely ingested anything since that day that dreadful court joker-" She gasped and covered her mouth with her hands as I glared at her. She knows I hate whenever someone mentions it. I look down and fidget with the rim of my blanket. Abigail sighed. "Please try to eat something." Was all she said before softly shutting my door and leaving.

I sighed and inched myself towards the tray sitting on my bed. An apple Danish, a slice of spiced walnut cake, a plate of fruits drizzled with honey and a cup of lavender milk. I sniffed as the sweet aroma of baked food entered my nose. I felt nothing. It didn't make my mouth water like usual. I couldn't enjoy the scent of baked food that usually delights me to the highest. If I were myself I wouldn't hesitate before scarfing down every bite of the deliciousness before me. But I'm not myself. Now when I look upon the food on the tray, I cannot bring myself to even think about relishing it. Even though it has been well over a week since I have eaten proper food, no hunger stirs in me when the aroma of food enters my nose. There is no point. Not anymore.

But exhaustion make me reconsider. I pick up the fork. I impale a blueberry, making it spray purple juice. I raise the fork to my mouth. Crushing it with my teeth, all that I taste was the sharp sour flavor spreading through my mouth, the sweetness was barely present. I forced the tiny berry down my throat. I skewer a piece of apple. I look at it with reluctance, before putting it into my mouth and chewing it. I force the next bite down my throat.

This will take a long time, I think to myself as I sip the milk to wash down the taste in my mouth.

An incredibly long while later and i still have half the plate of fruits untouched. I blankly chewed on a mixture of Fruits which are now unrecognizable since they are now just a wet mush. I try to swallow the tasteless pulp when my door swings open. I pretend not to notice and pop a strawberry into my mouth.

"Begging your pardon my Lady but, the king is coming." Abigail whispered.

I coughed as the strawberry got caught in my throat.
