I sat on the floor my heart thrumming with pain. Livid burning tears streamed out of both my eyes. Grief surges through my body like a burst dam. I try to breathe but my chest feels constricted by an unknown weight. The weight of loss.
A hazy smoke remains where the mirror was. The sisters looked sad but still enjoying this. I guess they also wanted my heart. But rather than losing I lost something much more precious. In front of me on the floor the dagger melted into nothingness. The finality of the situation settles into me. No. This is not what I wanted. This can't be how I will spend rest of my life. I gather my skirt in my hands and stand up shakily. One of the three girls giggle obnoxiously. I glare through my curtain of my tears at the three little girls. Tillie covers her mouth with her little hand. IN their dead eyes I could she that they knew Jest would do this. Almost as if it were part of their plan. Then they dare to laugh at my pain. A fire started in my head.
"I DEMAND YOU TO UNDO THIS SPELL." I shriek.
The three stand like their mother just caught them stealing candy. "It's a promise with time you can't undo. Jest will never return to Hearts. He will never come out of the looking glass."
They smile in unison.
I ball my fists. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN? YOU SAID ANYTHING CAN BE UNDONE WITH A BIG ENOUGH PRICE!"
"We did say that didn't we. Well... it depends... on how much you're willing to give up."
"TAKE MY HEART! TAKE MY LIFE! TAKE ANYTHING!" I scream.
"Do you think our joker will be very happy coming back when he hears you're dead? After all he did give his life and freedom up for you twice. Wouldn't both those sacrifices be for naught?"
I stop. Hatta's sacrifice. Jest's sacrifice. All so we could be together. "But that can never be." I whisper tears spilling out.
"Well, we can't bring him back out to our side but if you'd like you can talk to him ONE LAST TIME." The say their voices haunting the air. I lift my face up and wipe my eyes.
"I want to see him."
