James had gone to go answer the door.
Lizzie was tugging on my arm. I knelt down.
She put her hands to my ear and whispered.
"Are you my brother's girfriend?" She asked.
I smiled.
"No." I said.
"But you guys looked happy." She looked down.
"I know." I said. "But not always will happiness mean relationships."
"What's a relationship?" She asked.
"You'll know in the future."
James opened the door a little wider and turned around.
"Who is it?" I asked.
He looked down.
"I think you need to sit down before they come in." He said.
"Okay?"
I went over to couch that we were sitting on and sat down.
"Cmon in." He said opening the door all the way.
A woman stepped in. She looked as if she was crying. She had brown wavy hair and blue eyes. Just like me. She had a scar shaped like a moon on her right hand, identical to the one i have on my left. She had smiled reminding me of a very firmiliar and unforgetable smile. Of a woman who had only been there for the first 8 years of my life, leaving me at the age of 9.
"Mom." I said.
She dropped her bag and ran over to me. Tears running from her eyes. She gave me a hug. I hesitated to give it back.
She sat down on the chair. I looked out the window.
She got down on her knees.
"Sarah..." She started. "I am so sorry. I am sorry for the nine years i hadnt been apart of your life for."
"Mom just sit down." I said. "You don't have to apologize, everything is fine."
"Please forgive me." She cried. "I have been the worst mother."
I grabbed her hand and told her to come sit down.
"Mom, i'm not mad." I said. "I'm happy. I'm happy that you had come back and reached out to me after dad passed."
"That's why I'm here." She said.
James shut the door and sat down on the chair Lizzie was sitting on.
"Oh mom," I said. "This is James."
She smiled. "Nice to meet you James." He nodded back.
"Anyways," She continued. "I know this is like really quick moving, but I was wondering, since you're still 17, and you haven't graduated yet, that you'd like to come stay with me."
"Mom." I looked at James who had looked down at his fingers. "I don't know that's really fast and moving all of this, mom, this has been the house I've lived in my whole life. I'm not sure I'm ready to leave it all behind."
"Hunny..." She grabbed my hand. "This can be a new start. After your fathers funeral, I can help move all of these stuff, and I'll move your records down there so that you can graduate."
"Mom, I don't wanna graduate in Chicago. I wanna graduate here."
"Oh, we don't live in Chicago." She said. "We live in LA now."
My heart suddenly skipped a beat.
"LA?"
"LA baby."
