"having a soft heart in a cruel world is courage, not weakness"

3 am
i woke up suddenly, my chest and body coming grasping for air.
i had a bad dream, and i had just heard a bang outside our room.
"annie," hayden said sleepily. "i love you, it's okay."
he tightened his grip of his arms my waist.
"i love you too," i said smiling as he kissed my head.
"you guys are so freaking cute!" rush screamed.
i couldn't help but laugh.
oh that rush.
"it's three in the morning guys go to sleep," hayden said.
"fine." rush agreed.
but it only took a few minutes for him to start again.
"shaboo ya" he whispered loudly.
"roll call rush!" i continued it.
"my name is rush yeah i have a brush yeah and i like the soda crush yeah." rush said laughing.
my phone started to ring, and hayden was not happy.
"oh my gosh can i just sleep like can't brennan leave us alone for once." he took my pillow and flung it on his face.
"it's not brennan, though. it's my mom."
"i'll answer it," hayden said taking the phone.
"hey katie it's hayden. i miss you so much you guys are coming today right?" he spoke into the phone.
"nice. are we going to go to chipotle? there's one by the campus so once you get here"
"ahhh okay i see. no chipotle tonight."
"okay, i'll let annie know. see you later!"
he hung up my phone and gave it back to me.
"so what's going on that you planned for me huh?" i asked him.
"well we are going out to dinner with your parents tonight." hayden said confidently.
-
"annie are you ready yet your parents are already at the restaurant." hayden said through the bathroom door.
"almost!" i shouted.
a couple minutes later i opened the door.
"wow annie. how do you always look so beautiful?"
my cheeks reddened, and i couldn't help but hug him.
he was the sweetest boyfriend i've ever had.
-
we arrived at the restaurant and my dad started waving us down.
we walked to the table and hayden pulled the chair out for me.
"thank you hayden." i smiled at him.
we sat down and immediately were bombarded by questions.
my dad was first.
"so hayden, i hear you're dating my daughter."
"yes this is right," he said taking my hand.
"now i have a few rules for you hayden. no kissing, number one."
"oh come on billy, they're eighteen." my mom said.
my dad started to sip his water with his eyebrows raised when hayden began to speak again.
"well i already have."
i glanced over to my dad, who was having trouble gulping down the water.
once it was down, he had a response.
"you what?" he asked.
"i kissed her, billy."
"billy you're embarrassing her she can kiss a guy." my mom said.
"i'm just scared you'll do what brennan did to her."
"id never hurt your daughter."
the rest of the dinner went well, just a bunch of back and forth between my dad and hayden.
he could handle it.
unlike brennan.
ahhh i have to get this up quick so this will be short.
