“Brinlee…” a familiar voice murmured, a rough hand gently patting my face. “ Babe, c’mon. Time to wake up.” I groaned and my eyes started to flutter open to meet warm brown irises right above me.

“Th-This is just a dream. Some sick dream,” I found myself crying, lip quivering horribly. I accepted him to disappear, but all I got was a small laugh, his eyes crinkling adorably.

“I was never dead, you goofball,” he chuckled, his fingers tucking a stray strand of hair behind my ear. “I got stabbed but it was only a flesh wound. No big deal…”

“YY-You were… stabbed?” I choked, my face paling as my head started to spin. “I-I-I don’t f-feel so go-good.”

“Don’t pass out on me again,” he warned, suddenly serious. “I’ve had enough of that fainting crap. Relax, breathe, and to hell with all that panic.”

“B-But you were stabbed!” I muttered woozily. “A-Are you okay? Does it hurt? W-Will you live-“

“I’m. Fine.” He said evenly. “Lou gave me some local anesthetic-“ He stopped when he saw the confusion on my face.

“It’s a shot,” he sighed as he started to explain. “You basically just inject the skin with this stuff that makes everything go numb. It ain’t pleasant but once it’s done it takes away all of the pain. Totally worth it…”

“And how does Louis have it?” I asked hesitantly, afraid of the answer.

“It’s nothing illegal,” he chuckled at the fear on your face. “We’re into a lot of crap, but drugs ain’t part of it. He’s an intern up at West Medical. He has legal access to it all.”

“O-Oh,” I said quietly, looking away and biting my lip, trying to stifle the onslaught of questions that were stirring within me.

“I can see you thinking,” he sighed, rubbing his forehead. “Go ahead and ask, baby…”

“What do they want?” I said quickly, not beating around the bush. “Why did they take Macie? How are we gonna get her back? W-Will they give her back-“

“Easy, easy…” he said gently, sliding into the bed beside me and petting my hair. It was only then that I recognized the frustrated tears slipping down my cheeks.

“Sorry,” I sniffled, angrily swiping them away and cursing at myself for being weak.

“It’s all good, baby. I understand,” he reassured, leaning forward to gently press a kiss to my forehead before he pulled away, eyes intent. “Now to answer your question, they’ve made their demands and we-we can’t meet them so we’re gonna need a new plan but we’ll figure it out, alright? It’ll all be okay.”

“Liam, she’s your sister!” I squeaked, mouth opening and closing in shock. “Y-You have to do what they say.”

“I-I can’t ,” he choked, quickly standing up and tugging at his hair. “I can’t give them what they want!”

“And what do they want, Liam?! What can’t you give up for your little sister?!” I yelled, fists clenching as I saw his muscles tremble from…emotion?

“You, Brinlee. He wants you,” Liam said softly, my eyes bulging as I took in that tidbit of information.

“M-ME.” I choked, spots dancing in my vision once again. “WHY WOULD SOME RANDOM GANG WANT ME?!”

“HE is not random and HE…is your father, baby,” the boxer said quietly, opening his mouth to continue when there were loud screams and bangs, a black weapon being puled from his waistband and pointed at the door.

“I wouldn’t do that, Leeyuuum,” a voice sing songed from the doorway a voice all too familiar and all too frightening.

My father…
