Niall’s POV

“Where’s Brin?” Louis sighed as I plopped down on the couch.

“I laid her down. The poor thing is exhausted,” I mumbled, rubbing a handover my face in frustration. “Was there anything in the bathroom, mate?”

“I found a few bloody fingerprints on the bathroom windowsill. He was definitely here,” Louis mumbled. “But I-I don’t understand any of this. She was hysteric, saying that it was her father.”

“So she has a screwed up father. What’s the big deal?” Harry snapped agitatedly making the older lad glare, jumping up and tugging at his hair in frustration.

“Because, Harry,” he gulped, hesitating. “I saw him climbing out the window. It-It was Matt.” Both of us froze, our eyes locked on Louis’ before we were both on our feet in what I think was shock.

“You’re wrong,” I squeaked weakly. “Sh-She thought she was dreaming or something. Maybe she got it wrong. M-Maybe-“

“Her last name is Adams, Niall,” Louis said quietly. “She’s his kid.”

“W-We need to tell Liam,” I swallowed thickly. “This changes everything. Wh-Where’s the phone? I need to call hi-“

“He’s on his way,” Louis cut me off, placing his hands on my shoulders. “He said he found something that could help us find Macie.”

“What is it? Is she alright? Is-“ I began again, my face growing warm with panic for the little girl I had looked after for years.

“Oh cut the shit, Niall,” I heard a voice behind me, startling me with the language coming from the young lady’s mouth. “She’s probably dead.”

“Jessie, don’t say that,” Harry said gently, suddenly not as hostile as he saw the young girl with tears in her eyes. “You don’t know if she’s dead.”

“You didn’t see the blood,” she whimpered, wrapping her arms around herself. “Y-You didn’t see how awful it was and it’s all my fault!” with that she was sobbing and running up the stair and back to her room, Harry quickly running after her, calling her name.

“So I guess it’s just us-“

“OPEN THE DOOR!” Liam suddenly interrupted Louis from outside. We both bolted for the hallway, wrenching open the door to find a blood covered Liam with an unconscious girl in his arms.

“Niall, take the girl,” Louis quickly barked, ushering me towards Liam. I didn’t hesitate in gathering the body to my chest, her head rolling onto my shoulder, resting there. I couldn’t see the color of her hair, the strands matted in blood and dirt, but I couldn’t help but smile slightly as I took in the beautiful features of the young girl.

“She passed out when I touched her,” Liam grunted, clutching his side. “She’s one of Matt’s, lads. Poor thing has been to hell and back.”

“If you’ve got her, Niall, I’ll take care of Liam,” Louis said quietly, the mood rather depressing in the room.

“Yeah yeah. I can get her cleaned up,” I swallowed thickly, giving them a quick nod before striding to the staircase, trying my best not to jostle her as I made my way to the master bathroom. Sitting on the edge of the Jacuzzi tub, I balanced the girl on my knee, using my free hand to turn the water on and adjust the temp.

“Okay, ummm…” I mumbled to myself, a bit at a loss for what to do when there was a small groan from my arms. The mess of limbs cuddled deeper into my chest before her eyes blinked open, my heart leaping into my throat when I saw the sparkling green irises, slightly hazy from being asleep.

“Wha-“ she whispered when her face paled and she trembled, weakly trying to thrash her way out of my hold.

“Hey, hey, cmon now, doll. You’re alright,” I soothed, my chest tightening with emotion. The sheer terror her eyes conveyed had me sick with the mere thought of what that animal did to her.

“Please let me go,” she whispered quietly, tears spilling onto her dirty cheeks. “P-Please, sir-“

“Niall,” I cut in with a smile. “I’m Niall, love.” Her gaze flitted over my face before landing on the water, her breath catching and a longing filling her eyes.

“You want a bath….” I trailed off not knowing her name.

“S-Sarah,” she offered with a hesitant, almost fearful grin.

“Sarah,” I smiled, adjusting her more comfortably in my arms. “Beautiful name. Fits….” Her cheeks glowed red and I chuckled slightly, the wheels of my brain turning with how to go about with bathing her. She was already playing with the top of the water with her fingers, her body slowly relaxing into my hold as her focus shifted.

“Are you uh…wearing anything under that?” I blushed, receiving a small nod. “Woul-Would you mind if I take that shirt off then so I-I can help you get cleaned up?” Her whole body tensed and she looked up at me with a probing gaze as if to see if I was lying.

“I-I guess you can,” she finally relented, chewing nervously on her bottom lip. I shifted her out of my lap and set her on the edge of the tub, tugging up the oversized shirt that covered her body. I tried my best not to whimper when I saw the cuts and bruises, instead settling for a ‘manly’ clearing of my throat.

“Can you get in on your own?” I asked quietly, her small head bobbing up and down before she slid into the tub, her features contorting into a grimace as she slowly lowered herself to be submerged in the water. As soon as she did though, she released a heavy sigh, her eyes fluttering closed at the warm water.

“I’ll go get you some clothes to wear,” I mumbled. “Do you need help washing up or anything?”

“I’m alright,” she said quietly. “Thank you, Niall.”

“Yeah, yeah, of course, lass. I’ll go get those clothes for you,” I smiled, running my fingers through my hair. “Just holler if you need anything.” With that I left, shuffling down the hall to go through my dresser of clothes, all the while my heart pounding with an unknown feeling too me. Some sort of need to offer protection and affection to this ‘Sarah’ girl.

“Bloody hell,” I muttered to myself, straightening up from where I was kneeling to hear a terrifying sound:

A shrill scream of ‘NIALL’ sounding form the bathroom.
