Chapter 6 – Shopping Spree
The next morning (AKA after my thirteen hour sleep), as I promised, we went shopping.
And spent way too much money. That wasn’t mine.
First we had to go clothes shopping. My biggest problem was keeping everyone together; Mia’s was making sure the girls didn’t wear clothes that were too old for them. The girls were trying to find ways to get away with minis and tight things. Lily was trying to control Ella. Ella wanted to find matching clothes. And Jones tried to minimize the amount of death.
Because oh yeah, there is death. Spoiler alert – there IS death.
So anyway.
We went into a shop, a big, busy one. Immediately, Mia’s inner shopaholic took over and she led us right to the good clothes.
Hours later, it was nearly dark outside; we had finally chosen clothes, shoes, makeup, even bags. We all had gotten our hair dyed; Lily decided she wanted pink, Ella went from a dyed red to her natural brown, I went from blonde to brown, and Mia got her streaks dyed out. Mia was investigating the girls’ trolley again and throwing out the grown up clothes, when I noticed it had gone silent. The whole store, dead quiet.
And then I heard a gunshot.
“Guys!” I ran, ushering them into a change room. “Stay here, stay quiet and worst case scenario shoot and run. I’ll come back. I promise!”
“Becky,” Lily whimpered. “Don’t die. You’re all I have.”
I hugged her tight. “I won’t. I love you. Mizzie- look after them.”
She nodded and took them into the dressing room, and I ran back into the shop, my pistol at the ready.
“Bex!”
Jones was on top of an aisle.
In spite of the situation, I grinned. A shootout in a clothes shop - what more could a girl want? Other than a flash car, unlimited cash and enough iPhones to comfortably smash. Oh wait, I had all that. Now I got a shootout in a clothes shop! Okay enough babbling.
Climbing up, I grabbed his hand and hoisted onto the top of the aisle. I sat next to him. “How did they get in here anyway?”
“Who knows. They want you.”
“Well, they can’t have me. This’ll be fun.”
“Or fatal.”
I shrugged; the man had a point. Lying down, I tried to be invisible; it worked when I saw a guy aim at Jones who was looking over the other side.
“Jones!” I shot the guy and rolled, pulling Jones down to the ground with me. We ran in a crouch then I heard a scream, that I recognized immediately. Mia.
“JONES!” Without questioning, he followed me; you had to trust people in our line of work, or else you would get nowhere and probably be stabbed in the back. Literally stabbed. Or shot.
“M,” I screamed, dashing into the changing room. She was in the corner, backed up, screeching. She had pushed the little ones behind her; they were terrified. There was a big heavy guy with a gun aimed at them.
“First I’m gonna shoot Skinny, then I’m gonna shoot Curly, then I’m gonna shoot Shorty,” he was saying. He started describing how he would kill them; I had heard enough.
“HEY!” He turned around and smirked.
“Another ugly girly. Good! But you’ll have to wait your turn, Skinny goes first.”
