Sacrifices Must Be Made

- 2010 -

Sam removes his apron. Hung on a hook on the wall inside the canteen of SK Bakti Jaya. All of the canteen workers and cooks have went home. Sam told them to. Let him clean the canteen and lock the doors. Since he put down his job last year, the title 'detective' is no longer heard.

Sam looked at the clock. It's almost 1 in the afternoon. To be more specific, it's 12.40 pm. He needs to bring Ema home. That little one must have been waiting for him. Luckily, Ema's kindergaten teacher allowed her to stay at her house while waiting for his father to come and pick her up. That's their everyday routine.

Sam looked at the counter. There are still a lot of food left in the trays. Still good to eat. Usually, Sam and the other workers will divide the food equally to eachother to be brought back home. But usually Sam only takes only one plastic bag to be eaten later in the evening. Sam, her wife and Ema don't each much. Only Syahmi does. But he's studying in Australia now. The will be a lot of leftovers if he brings home a lot of food. Other workers told Sam to bring home a lot. As for an excuse, they told Sam that he can eat it for supper. But Sam knows, before sunset, the food will become stale.

"Long time no see, friend." Someone talked to Sam from behind.

Sam turned around. "Hazim! Rai! Hajiq!" Sam was happy to see them. He hugged Detective Hazim. He smiled at Inspector Rai and shook hands with Inspector Hajiq. "Hmm while you guys are here, have a seat! Fill your stomachs first! There's still a lot of food." said Sam.

Sam quickly served food and made drinks for them. They sat at the canteen table opposite the place where students queue to buy their food. Sam sat beside Detective Hazim and faced Inspector Rai and Inspector Hajiq.

"So, why did you guys came here for?" asked Sam while looking at Inspector Rai and Inspector Hajiq. He then looked at Detective Hazim, hoping for an answer.

"Well, don't look at me. Ask the couple infront of you." said Detective Hazim in a sarcastic tone.

The married couple, Rai and Hajiq looked at eachother while mumbling 'you tell him' with a chuckle. Inspector Hajiq had married Inspector Rai a long time ago, a few months after Syahmi was born. But maybe it's not time yet for them to have a kid.

Detective Hazim, while looking at Inspector Rai and Inspector Hajiq shook his head. He thought that if he lets them both to tell Sam the real deal, it will take forever.

"Actually. We have information about Zarith, or now known as Cobra." explained Detective Hazim.

Sam looked at him while munching on the fried rice. He waits for his ex-colleague to continue his sentence.

"Looks like he'll join a martial arts competition known as Martial Arts Underground Tournament. MAUT for short. With this, we can catch him red handed. We need you because we need four members for a team. Three fighters, one reserve. No need for a reserve actually, but we can't take the risk. Furthermore, this is our first time joining a competition like this. We can't really see what will happen next."

"Hmm. This mission didn't get the approval, right?" asked Sam.

His friends are shocked. How on Earth did he knew? Detective Hazim laughed.

"Just as expected from the best agent. See what I say, Hazim? Even though we didn't even tell him, he can and will know." said Inspector Hajiq.
