After the whole "being chased and then trying to kill Delsin" fiasco, it would be an understatement to say that we all had a few questions. Knowing how Augustine and the D.U.P. liked to keep an eye on everything, we all agreed that it would be too dangerous to remain out on the streets. Especially when it involved talking about two conduits' powers.
However, our mutual agreement soon turned into an all-out debate as soon as the matter of location was brought up. Delsin just didn't give a shit if the D.U.P. were around or not, (those were pretty much his exact words). He hated being forced to constantly hide and keep a low profile, all because of his 'gift.' But who could blame him? Having angry mobs always out to kill you doesn't exactly scream "naptime." He must be exhausted from being on the alert 24/7. God knows I was.
Reggie, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. He thought that the faster we got off the streets, the better. He said that if what we were about to share was as important as we though, it would be too dangerous to stay out in the open.
"What if Augustine got a hold of it, then what?" Reggie argued. "We have no idea what she is capable of, let alone what she would do if she had the dirt on two bio-terrorists!"
Delsin and I did actually have a pretty good idea of Augustine's limitations, or lack-there-of, but I wasn't about to point that out to the two feuding brothers.
After that, any cooperation that we may have had went out the window. Reggie called Delsin a dumbass for not even considering the dangers whereas Delsin just responded with something about how he was actually doing something and not just hiding behind a badge.
"Damn it Delsin, you never think things through!"
"And you never take a chance!"
"Oh, like you? How did that work for you today? Oh, yeah! You got kicked in the balls!"
"Hey! That's more action than you've gotten in god-knows how long!"
For seven minutes this went on, the two of them bickering back and forth like an old married couple. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore.
"Guys!" I shouted. Not only did the brothers stop fighting, but even the people walking past our little alleyway instantly stopped and stared at us. So much for not drawing attention to ourselves.
Rubbing my head, I sighed. In a low voice as to not draw any more attention to us, and to not worsen my newly forming headache, I announced the one thing that I had dreaded. Although I absolutely didn't want it to come down to this, it didn't seem like we had any other options."Look, guys. If none of us can absolutely not think of any other way, I...well....I guess we can go to my apartment." I reverted my gaze to the ground as Delsin and Reggie pondered over my proposal.
'I don't want them to know where I live!,' I thought. 'I barely even know these two! Besides, I sure as hell don't want Delsin to know where I sleep at night! I mean, he DID just pin me to a wall and admitted to checking me out! Wait-he was checking me out? Huh, that's new. I wonder how I feel about that-.....hey, wait! Come on Bella focus!' I let out a defeated sigh. Whether I liked it or not, we were running out of options. Besides, it's not like Delsin's little stunt at the D.U.P. checkpoint was going to go unnoticed.Accepting the inevitable, I looked back up at the brothers. "Wha-what do you guys say?" I stuttered. 'Damn it Bells! Pull yourself together! This is no time to be an introvert!'
Reggie stayed quiet for a moment, still thinking over what I had just said. "Hm, I'm not so sure that's a good idea."
"Aw, come on man. It's not like we've got any other ideas, Reg." Delsin spoke up. "And besides," Delsin looked away from his brother and straight into my green eyes. "When was the last time a pretty girl invited you back to her place?" His finished with his signature smirk, making my cheeks heat up instantly.
'Damn him.' I thought. 'Why does he have to be so...so-'
My thoughts were interrupted by a now irritated cop. "Alright, fine. Just as long as it's not too far. And Delsin. Stop being-!"
"What?" Delsin mockingly cut him off. "Awesome? A badass? Dead sexy ~."
"A dick." Reggie bluntly finished and began walking away.
"Can't make any promises!" Delsin called after him before turning back to me. "So, you ready to take a couple of studs back to your place?"
In a last attempt to hide my growing blush, I tried to cover my face with my long, white hair. Bad idea. Without me even noticing, Delsin lowered his head so that his lips rested just next to my ear without actually touching it.
"Or, would you rather we do something a bit more fun now that Reggie's gone," he said in a seductive voice that sent chills down my spine. "I still haven't see your powers ya know. You wanna show 'em to me now or wait till we're at your place?"
Just having him standing so close made my face turn ten shades redder. "I-I uh...I think t-that w-we should go!" I stuttered as I quickly made my way to where Reggie was waiting.
"What were you two doing that took so long?" He questioned with a cocked eyebrow.
"Nothing! Nothing at all! Completely and absolutely nothing what-so-ever. Heh." I hastily replied with a nervous laugh. I looked at my wrist to check my ever-handy, invisible watch. "Oh, wow! Would you look at the time! We better get a move on before the D.U.P. sees us. Come on, my apartment is this way." I turned left and started to walk away from a still standing Reggie before turning back around. "Um, this way actually." I said as I once again walked past Reggie, this time in the correct direction.
'Smooth, Bella. Smooth.'
Reggie just shrugged his shoulders as he began to follow me, his still smirking brother not too far behind.
