Bella's P.O.V.
'I shouldn't have run off like that.' I sighed to myself as I gazed up at the cloud strewn night sky overhead. Despite the fact that it had managed to stop raining long ago, a cold shiver ran up my spine. 'Guess sittin' on a wet rooftop at night wasn't my best idea....hell, anything involving me and rooftops lately is a bad idea.' With another shaky breath, I returned my attention back to the streets below, watching as countless of D.U.P.s buzzed about in a semi-chaotic fashion.
'Can't be long now.' I thought with a hum as I pulled my knees closer to my chest, attempting to warm my hunched over form. After having spent hours of waiting by the D.U.P. testing center things were beginning to pick up, putting a temporary end to my long era of boredom. After having stormed off from the two Rowe brothers, I had managed to occupy my time by venting my anger and frustration across the rooftops of Seattle. By the time I had managed to cool off enough, I decided to return to the alleyway where I had left Delsin and Reggie only to find them missing upon my arrival. Guess I wasn't the only one who needed to vent. I could only hope that the brothers weren't too mad at my behavior, especially Reggie.
'Though, to be fair it wasn't entirely my fault that I went off on him like that.' I thought as the events from earlier replayed in my head. 'Besides, Delsin should've at least told me about Augustine's plans first. Maybe then I wouldn't be spending my evening all alone on a rooftop staring at this damned thing.'
A nearby splash of a heavy footfall against the puddle-filled rooftop instantly pulled me out of my thoughts. Not bothering to turn around, I listened as the mysterious footsteps approached me from behind. Assuming as to who the owner of the footsteps were, I waited until the person was in earshot before speaking.
"Delsin, go away...." I demanded in a monotone voice, hoping that for once the male would actually listen and leave me to my thoughts. However, no such luck came from my demand and instead, a large hand rested lightly on my shoulder. Shrugging off the hand, I attempted once more to communicate to the male, this time in a more irritated tone. "Delsin, I don't wanna talk right now. So just leave me alone for a while, alright?"
The male behind me merely released a drained sigh and instantly I realized my mistake.
"Bella...." The man murmured softly, his voice slightly deeper than that of the mischievous smoke conduit. Glancing over my shoulder I was surprised to find the apologetic features of Reggie rather than Delsin; his brown eyes reflecting a hint of guilt as he gazed into my soft green ones.
"Reggie," I whispered under my breath, eyes widening in disbelief as I stood up from my position on the roof. "Wh-what are you doing here? If you're here to stop me than forget it! I-"
"I'm sorry...." The words were low and mumbled but I still managed to pick them up, making my green orbs widen even more.
"I-I....you what?"
Another sigh escaped the male's lips as he took the seat on the ground beside me before speaking again. "I'm not here to fight with you. Actually, I came to....you know....apologize. I said some things that I shouldn't have and I may have crossed the line. But you've got to understand something, Isabella. If something happens to you, Delsin won't be the only one hurt by it. Me, Eugene, hell, even Fetch has taking a liking to you. We're all just concerned about you. If you keep running off like that, you're going to get yourself killed." Pausing, the officer took a deep breath before gripping onto my shoulders and gently turning me so I was facing him. "I may not get along with Fetch and I might still be a little unsure around Eugene. But you, you're different. Delsin, he really cares for you. You've seen what he can do, what happens to his....abilities when his emotions get out of control. If you die, it'll break him."
My breathing hitched in my throat at his words, hot tears beginning to swell behind my eyes as a sense of hopelessness began to creep up inside of me.
"What would you have me do? Let innocent people die at Augustine's hands? Leave these "subjects" of hers to suffer the same horrendous experiments I had while I just sit back and watch? I can't do that Reggie, you know that. Not when I have the chance to stop it. Like I said before, you can't stop me, Reggie. I'm going to put an end to this with or without yours and Delsin's help. So, either you get out of my way or I'm going to have to freeze your limbs to one of these rooftops. And as amusing as that may be, trust me when I say that that is something that I would much rather not do."
"I know," Reggie stated tiredly as he stood up, offering a hand to help pull me into a standing position. "That's why I've decided that Delsin and I are going to help you fight those D.U.P.s and take down Augustine. Well, Delsin will be doing most of the fighting. I'm just the guy with a plan. Or do you still think that planning is a waste of time?" As he finished speaking, Reggie did the one thing that I would have never expected him to do in a million years; He smirked at me. But this wasn't a mischievous grin like that of his younger brother's. Although there were some minor similarities between the ways the two brothers' lips curled upwards, this one was different. It was teasing, but in no way was it flirtatious. It was the type of smirk that only a brother could give; the type that only younger siblings can understand. And it was that smirk that forced the last of my bottled up emotions to burst forth and tackle the unsuspecting male into a long awaited hug.
"Oh sh-oomph!" Reggie began but the force of my impact practically knocked the air out of his lungs. I could feel the officer grow rigid under my hold, the action displaying his obvious uncertainty as to how he should react to my sudden display of affection. But I didn't care. Rather, my arms tightened around his torso as gentle tears slid down my light cheeks. After some awkwardness and mental debating on his part, Reggie decided to finally return the gesture; his left arm slowly wrapping around my waist as he gently patted my back in a comforting manner with the other. "Ummm....there, there." The officer half cooed, half mumbled while inwardly wondering just how in the hell he was going to escape from my iron hold. But what could I say? It had already been a very long and emotional day for me. Speaking of emotions....
"Awe, how....sweet...." A voice rang out behind us, the tone dripping with sarcasm along with a hint of jealousy. "Alright, Reg. That's long enough. Hand over my girl before I'm the next one to slap you, man."
"Just what the hell do you think I'm trying to do right now, Delsin?! But she won't-"
"Delsin?!" Instantly, I released my hold on Reggie upon hearing the male's name. Peering around the now slightly crushed officer, I got a clear view of the male conduit as he approached me with a not-all-too-happy expression. By the time he was standing in front of me, I had to advert my gaze away from the male as he shot a possessive glare in Reggie's direction.
"Bella..." Delsin stated in a low tone, lightly gripping onto my chin so that he could force me to look at him. "Never. Ever. Run off on me like that again. Got it?"
Nervously, I gave my head a light nod in response, not daring to trust my words in fear that they may fail me.
"Good." With that said, the tall male leaned down and smashed his lips on my own in a forceful yet passionate kiss.
