Chapter 37

A large pink STAFF was scrawled across the door in looping cursive. Jyugo takes a step forward to turn the brilliant blue handle.
"WAIT!" Kitty shouts.
"What? What is it?" Rock asks.
"Um, don't you think we should make sure that Saika is the one on duty?" Kitty stumbles over the words. "I mean, if Kiji's in there, he'll send us back to 13 and won't let us visit."
I squint at her. "Though I'm fairly certain this is just another point you've brought up in hopes to lengthen this fic-" Kitty's/my face turns bright red. "-but you do have a point. Anyone have any ideas of how to check?"
"What about this?" Rock points Nico's hand to a bulletin board next to the door.
"Well that's convenient." Kitty huffs.
I scan the list of names until I reach today's date.
"Thank the lord in heaven." I sigh. "She's on duty."
I step forward and twist the door handle. I can feel everyone behind me, breathing down my neck, waiting expectantly to see behind the door.
