Chapter Thirteen: Custard
I awoke in a bright, white room. I waited for my eyes to adjust to the brightness before I looked around. The first thing I noticed was that there was something very heavy resting on my legs. I looked down and saw two things. One, I was in a bed and two, Elijah was sleeping peacefully at my feet. I smiled and reached down, ruffling his hair the slightest. This tiny action must've woken him as he looked at me. His face broke out into a smile and he tackled me, hugging me tightly but softly at the same time.
"Pastel, I was so worried when you suddenly fainted in front of me!" He exclaimed as he continued hugging me, his face buried in the crook of my neck. I made a puzzled expression as I tried to remember what exactly happened. Then all the memories came flooding to me and I made a small gasp.
"What's wrong baby?" Elijah asked me worriedly. My face lit up like a Christmas at what he just called me.
"B-baby?" I stuttered, still blushing furiously. He laughed slightly and nodded. He cupped my face, rubbing his thumb soft against my cheekbone.
"Now tell me what's wrong and what exactly happened." He ordered me and I obeyed his command. I told him about the nightmare that I had last night and revealed to him about the vision I saw at lunchtime. He looked at me with a worried expression the whole time.
"Hey, Pastel, were you abused as a child?" He asked me cautiously. I looked at him wide eyes as realization went through my head.
"I don't have much childhood memories or even memories of my father." I confessed to him, puzzled at why I can't seem to remember anything.
"Do you know what happened to your father?" Elijah questioned me and I nodded my head.
"My mother said he went away." I answered him. Elijah visibly frowned. I was about to ask what's wrong until the school nurse came in. Timing is really not on my side today.

My mother picked me up from school a few minutes after the nurse explained to me I was excused from school earlier. When my mother saw me laying in the infirmary, tears started streaming down her face. She rushed over to me and Elijah got off of me. My mother embraced me in tears while whispering sweet things to me.
We left the school shortly afterwards. Elijah bid me a farewell and gave me a long, soft kiss as well as a hug.
"I'll see you soon!" He promised me then made his way to class. As soon as he left, I debated whether calling him back but decided it was best not to. He needed to focus on school more and not be bothered with me health.
Mom and I arrived at the bakery. I sighed as I set my bag on the table and sat down on a nearby chair.
"Stay there." My mother ordered me and I nodded. Not wanting to move at the moment anyways. A few seconds later, my mom brought me a bowl containing chocolate custard with hot fudge drizzled on top. My mouth watered at the sight and gobbled down the custard in a matter of seconds.
"Thanks, I needed that." I thanked my mother and she smiled at me. She then grabbed my hands and intertwined them with hers. Since my hands are abnormally small, her hands were somewhat gigantic compared to mine. I laughed at this and once my mother noticed as well, she laughed along with me.
"Now, Pastel, tell me what happened this morning and at lunchtime." My mother suddenly told me. My eyes went wide as I wasn't expecting that.
"The nurse told me that your brain is going through some flashbacks that are affecting you so much that you fainted during lunch hour." Mom explained to me and I scowled. I really didn't want to worry my mom with what's going on with me but now I guess I must tell her.
I then went into explaining my dream from last night. Saying how I had a nightmare of how my father supposedly abused me and it felt weirdly real and like I've experienced it before. I continued on by telling her about my flashback that happened during lunchtime. Explaining all the events that occurred in the vision. As soon as I finished, I noticed my mother was oddly silent.
She suddenly got up, a serious expression painted on her face. She then pulled out her phone and left the room, talking with someone on the other line. She then came back, frowning the slightest.
"Darling, please go up to your room." She commanded me but I, for once in my life, did not obey. I did get up but I went and stood in front of her. She looked at me shocked and I let out a big breath. Gaining courage to finally ask this question.
"Mom, what happened between me and my father?"
