“We are the perfect couple, we’re just not in the perfect situation.”
—Anonymous

It was evening before we finally got dressed and decided to face the day. I wanted to try to cook something for Taylor but he had enough leftovers in his fridge to feed an army. Three times. So I heated up some spaghetti for the two of us as he walked around the kitchen with his arms around my waist whispering things into my ear. Finally I managed to get him to sit down next to me on the couch. We watched TV and ate our late supper.

The next three days flew by. Between goings to a small studio in downtown LA, spending lazy afternoons with Taylor, and staying up all night to show how much we loved each other, there was little time for much else. The day I was supposed to fly out of LAX back to Nashville was somber.

We woke up that morning tangled together. I jerked awake at 9 o'clock.

“Taylor!” I hissed, “Wake up, I have to leave in an hour!”

He slowly rose and rubbed his eyes. He looked over at me and cracked a smirk.

“Now, what are you doing wearing my shirt?” he said with raised eyebrows.

I smacked him with a pillow and jumped out of bed. I picked up my clothes and ran up to my room to get dressed. I had spent every single night in Taylor's room, but my clothes were still upstairs were he left them the first day.

Within 20 minutes I was bolting down the stairs in a pair of dark purple skinny jeans with Keds and a black turtleneck. I had done my hair and makeup hastily, so I was silently praying I looked half-way decent in case we ran into the paparazzi today.

When I stepped into the kitchen for some breakfast Taylor pushed me into a chair and placed a plate of pancakes and sausage in front of me. I kissed him and dug in. He sat across from me and ate his own big plate of food.

Finally, we loaded all of my bags into his car and drove to the airport. We spent about 10 minutes kissing goodbye. Everything ended too soon when my Paula came over and practically had to pry us apart to lead me to my plane. My hand nearly fell off from waving so much at him.

After the long flight back to Nashville I went straight to my bed and fell asleep. I woke up around 3 o'clock the next afternoon. I checked my phone to see if Taylor texted me. He did.

hey Taybae text me back when u get this I'm sure you're sleeping off the jet lag rn but hope u had a good flight I already miss u love ya

I smiled and typed a quick reply:

yup got home late and slept a lot miss u too babe can't wait to see you again love ya too

I put my phone down and went through the day like normal. Over the next couple days, Taylor and I texted regularly. I was also spending more and more time in the studio writing and recording my next album. I found that a lot of the songs I had be writing lately have been about how love gives second chances and how a long distance relationship is difficult, but workable. After Harry and Jake, I had doubted love but now with Taylor again...and Ed Sheeran constantly reminding me that life and love goes on, I have found the good things in love. I spent time with my girls in Nashville too. I also baked lots. I did anything and everything that would keep my mind off of missing Taylor.

One day, I had just walked in the door, after coming back from a long day at the studio, I got a call from a number I didn't recognize right away. I answered and I will never forget who the caller was or what they said to me.

It was Taylor's mom and she said that Taylor had been shot multiple times at a Hollywood movie premiere.
