Name: Matthew Saitou (S-i-toe. You can call him Matt)

Age: 26

Location: In between the US and Japan while he's on medical leave. He's technically from both.

Occupation: Soldier in the United States Army. Self made author.

Personality: Matt can be sarcastic if the situation calls for it but he knows when to be serious. He's trained with his father in the Saitou family kenjitsu - sword technique - thus leaving him capable of fighting in a traditional Japanese style. This also makes him a quick thinker and strategist. His time in combat only strengthened his fighting skills both unarmed and with an AR-15 rifle. Unfortunately, his time in war has also left him with battle scars both visible and internal. His shoulder injury still hasn't fully healed, keeping him from his kenjitsu training. Mentally, he's dealing with PTSD although he's never officially been diagnosed. This can make him unpredictable, even to the point of accidentally hurting someone he loves. He's also willing to do whatever it takes to survive and get back to his friends and family meaning literally anything. Yet if he befriends anyone there is a chance he will be self sacrificing should the situation arise. He's fascinated with history simply because of his family's rich but complicated history.

Appearance: Matt has black straight hair which is currently in a buzz cut. He has the slanted, almond shaped eyes from his Japanese father but the piercing green eyes of his American mother. He's athletic and muscular from his Army training.

Backstory: Matt has an American Mom and a Japanese dad both with families that have rich history in war. His great grandparents fought against each other in World War II and his father's ancestors go back to the samurai in the 1500s. Matt enlisted in the Army at age 18. His father owns a dojo in Japan so he was constantly bouncing back and forth between the United States and Japan. He lived in the States with his parents in high school but after he enlisted both parents moved back to Japan. His first deployment was after he turned twenty and he was in Afghanistan for 16 months. When his natural 6 year contract was up at age 24, he reenlisted. At age 25, he was deployed to Afghanistan for his second tour. He was seven months into his tour when he was wounded in an IED explosion. After four months in the hospital and in recovery, he's currently on medical leave. This gives him more time to write his book about his family's complicated history and more time to train with his dad when he visits his parents in Japan.

Biggest Fear: Matt's biggest fear is his own mind. He's afraid of the flashbacks and the blackouts he has because of his PTSD attacks. During them, he acts like a completely different person, like the soldier he had to be overseas. He's terrified of hurting someone he loves and not being able to control it.

Other: The kenjitsu style he fights in is called Itto-ryu and it's made him surprisingly skilled with a Japanese katana.
