When I First Saw You

**** Katniss POV ****

Here I am. Waking up early to school. The place I dread ever since I started going at the age of 3. I have been stuck there for 3 years now! Gosh it is hard! I hate having to add and subtract. I only smile when I get to see my friends Annie, Johanna, Madge, and Delly. They are pretty fun. Last week we built a Lego House during free time! Well here I go.

I get out of bed. Tired as always. That is when my maid tells me is time for me to get ready. I like her even though she is really loud because she is funny. Octavia and Venia always play with me and Prim. Those are our closest maids. They have been taking care of us since we were little babies according to my mom and dad. My parents are really awesome. I love them. They take care of me and work hard to give Prim and me this HUGE house we live in and all the luxuries we live with. My dad is a well known botanist and mom is a prestigious doctor. Oh well, I better start getting ready. I get to my bathroom and take a 10 min. shower. I actually prefer to have long showers but I have to get ready for school so..... 

I enter to my forest green bedroom and find that my outfit for school is already chosen for me by Cinna. Cinna is the family stylist. He is a good friend of mine since he works with us since I was born so that's at least 6 years. I get dressed in my sky blue dress, Octavia braids my hair, Venia chooses my shoes, and I go to eat breakfast. Flavius, our personal chef, prepared French toast, waffles, fruit salad, and some cookies for Prim and me to take to school.

We both get in the car and our dad drives us to school with mom on the passengers sit. We have our own chauffeur but mom and dad insist on driving us to school to have some time together, which makes me really happy to be honest. They work so hard that this and supper time are the only moments of the day we spend together. 

We arrive to school and dad takes me to my class while mom takes Prim to Nursery. Guess that is quite funny they usually do it that way because I look like my dad and Prim looks like mom. Mom and Prim are beautiful blondes with blue eyes, and light skin and dad and I have gray eyes, olive skin, and brown hair. I get to my class 1st grade B. In this school the grades are divided into sections. There are two sections per grade. As soon as I enter to my classroom I am greeted by Madge, Delly, Annie, and Johanna. We go to where the crayons are and start drawing. I draw a forest, Annie the sea, Delly a dress, and Madge a bracelet and a pin. We actually draw pretty well but not amazing if you know what I mean. But hey! We are six year old's what did you expected?

Mrs. Bonnie enters the classroom and we have Math class, Science, English, and finally recess. In recess, Annie, Delly, Maddie, Jo, and I decide to play hide and seek. I usually suck at this game but it is really funny and today I have the perfect hiding spot. We get some sticks and raffle who is going to seek first. Jo ends up counting and when she starts I run to the old set of games in the playground. Nobody ever comes here so it is the perfect spot.

I climb the ladder to the tunnel slide and stop in my tracks. "Ah!" I scream when I see somebody in there. He just seems startled but said "Hi! My name is Peeta. What's your name?"

" My name is Katniss" I almost whisper recovering from my previous shock. "What brought you to here?" Peeta asks. "Hide and Seek." I answer. "Well this is a great hidding spot, almost nobody come here. That's why I come here to draw" that is when I finally see his crayons by his side and the paper in his hands. "Oh! You like drawing" I say amazed by the fact that a boy actually prefers drawing than playing football/soccer. "Yeah!" he says smiling."What are you drawing?" I ask letting my curious side show. He hands me the paper in his hand and I see the best drawing of a beach during sunset I have ever seen. "It is beautiful!" I whisper to myself but being inside a tunnel slide with somebody everything you say is heard. "Thanks" he says chuckling. " Wanna a keep it?" he asks. I smile to him and say "Thank you."

"So what grade are you in?" he says. " 1st grade B" I answer. "And you?" "1st grade A" he answers. "You are with Mrs.Twill right?" I say. "Yeah! She is a really good teacher. Specially in art class." he smiles thinking in Art class I guess. " And you with Mrs.Bonnie if I'm not mistaken." he adds. "Yup. She is a good teacher too and I love Science class." That is when I hear my name being called by the girls and almost feel sad for not being able to talk to him more. " Uhm.... I better get going. Can I talk to you again sometime?" I ask because I really want him as a friend. He really seems as a nice kid and good friend. " I am always here drawing or with Finnick, Cato, and Marvel playing soccer at recess and on the swings after school." he answers. " Okay. Maybe I will come here tomorrow again." I smile and slide down the slide.

"Katniss!" I hear Annie's voice. I walk a bit far from the old playground area so they don't to suspect where I was hiding so I don't lose my perfect hiding spot. I get to the swing area and scream "Here!" They all rush to where I am. "Kat! Where were you!" says Annie. "Don't say here because you were obviously not here. I double check this place!" says Jo. " A good hiding place must be kept secret." I say. "Yeah, yeah! Whatever." says Jo. "Lets just enter the class. We only have 2 more recess minutes and we won't get seats together if we don't hurry." Maddie and Delly say in unison. We giggle a bit and head to class.

Th bell rings before Mrs. Bonnie enters and we have Arts and Reading. We go out to Gym and enter the class again for free time. Annie, Maddie, and I go to the arts section of the class and Delly and Jo went to play with Clove and Glimmer other friends of ours. They are cool but usually hang out with Cato and Marvel from the other sections during recess. Maybe they know Peeta too. I go to my backpack and slip Peeta´s drawing inside. "Kat, what is that?" Annie asks "A drawing." I say not wanting them to think that I prefer to hang out with other people during recess just because I was with Peeta, especially since he is a boy. "Let us see!" Maddie and her say at the same time. "Okay." I say taking it out of my backpack and handing it. "Woah! That is beautiful!" they say in a dreamy voice. "Where did you got it?" Annie asks. "Uhm.... I... I found it." I say, lying. Don't judge me I am a bad liar! They both stand there wondering if they should believe me or not. After a few seconds they say "Oh, okay!" and smile at me. We draw a lot. I drew a lake surrounded by a bunch of trees. Annie drew a coral reef and Maddie a city. The bell rings we pack our stuff and rush to the monkey bars. We play until Plutarch, our family's chauffeur gets to the school. He already took Prim home. Because school ends for her 2 hours before it does for me. I say goodbye to my friends and leave.

"How was school?"  Platarch asks while opening the door to me. "Good. I met a new friend!" I say smiling. "Oh! And what's his name?" he asks sweetly. "Peeta Mellark" I say smiling. He looks startled and has a wide eyed expression for a second but then smiles again. "Oh! Good for you" he says. "Uhm... something is wrong here." I think to myself but keep smiling. I really like our house staff. They are all funny and caring. Either way, the 5 minutes left in the car were completely silent. 

We arrive home and Prim engulfs me in a hug. Oh how I love my little sister. We eat our meal and finish homework. Actually, I finish homework and Prim plays with a ball. Then, we play outside and swim for a while in our pool. Finally, my parents arrive and join us during supper. We talk a little bit and then get ready to sleep. I take a shower, dress on my nightgown, brush my teeth, towel dry my hair as good as I can and go to Prim's room. There, mom and dad are waiting for me to make our night prayer. We pray and sing a lullaby to Prim.

Deep in the meadow, under the willow

A bed of grass, a soft green pillow

Just as we end singing to her she falls asleep. Aw! She looks so cute! Then mom and dad take me to my room, say good night, and kiss me on the forehead. I soon fall asleep too. Excited for going to school for some reason.
