Surprise!

*** Katniss's POV ***

 "Wake up Katniss!" I hear Venia's voice say from downstairs. I shoot straight up. I am so excited for today. Why? Because today's Peeta's birthday and I am planning something HUGE for him. I just hope he likes it. 

I quickly shower and get dress on a beautiful orange dress Cinna chose. Octavia braids my hair and I run downstairs. I talk with my parents while eating the delicious waffles Flavius made. "Dad can you give $10 please?" I ask. "Yeah but Katniss for what do you need this money? You've been asking for money the past 2 weeks every day." he says. " I want to make a party for my friend whose birthday is today." I answer. It is partially true just that I don't tell him the part of the big surprise I will buy him. "Okay but I want to meet the young lad someday. Who knows? Maybe he will steal my little baby's heart." he says. "Dad!" I whine giggling because he starts carrying me. "Okay. But I am serious I want to meet him." he says putting me on the floor. "I promise you will. Maybe someday you go and pick me up from school." I answer to him. "Can we pass to the paint store on the way to school please?" I continue. "Yes princess." he says chuckling. "Thanks daddy! I love you!" I say giggling. "Anything for you princess. I love you too." my dad says. "My king and princess you know it is time to go to school right?" my mom says hugging us. "What about me?" Prim asks in her cute toddler voice. "You are our little princess." mom and dad say in unison. "Yay!" she says jumping up and down.

We get in the car and drive to Seeder's paint shop. I ask for the best paint set $140 could buy. I can´t believe that in just 2 weeks I got 140 bucks! She hands me a set with five different paint brushes, twenty different paint colors, three canvasses, a white paper block, and crayons. "I take it!" I exclaim seeing the perfection of the gift I am giving to my beloved best friend. "Here you go girl!" Seeder says. "Thanks!" I say and head back to the car.

"What did you bought him?" Mom, Dad, and Prim asks at the same time. "A paint set." I answer giggling for their excitement. "Sweetie, what was the cost?" Mom asks. "Uhm.... $140" I say afraid she will punish me or she will somehow get mad. "Is that from the money you've been saving?" she asks me. "Yes" I say still nervous. "I think my baby's heart is being stole." she says with a sad expression. "No! He is just my best friend!" I exclaim blushing a bit. I mean I am only 6 years old I can´t think of a boy like that! It is gross! "What´s his name?" mom questions but I am too mad to talk to her. "Okay young lady you'll have to answer someday." she sings but I just sit there looking outside my window waiting to get to school. We arrive and I get out of the car. Dad takes me to my class and mom does the same to Prim. "Bye dad" I mumble a little bit mad at him too. "Bye princess" he chuckles and kisses my cheek.

I enter the class with the paint set in hand. "Hey Kat!" all of my friends say. "Hi!" I say forgetting everything the was said in the car. "Do you think Mr.Boggs will make an unexpected assembly just because you asked him?" Annie asks. "Yes, I asked him yesterday and said that it was completely okay." I answer for all the girls. "This will be the best surprise ever!" Annie, Jo, Madge, and Delly say in unison. What´s up with people today? Is everybody connected and speak at the same time or what? However, I giggle with them because to be honest I find it funny.

"Assembly time!" Mrs.Bonnie says. We all head to the auditorium and I start getting nervous. What if he doesn´t like it. "He will like it." Annie says reading my thoughts apparently. "Yeah don't worry Kat" Madge adds. "Don't act so brainless" Jo says. "He will be smiling like crazy all day!" Delly exclaims. They all give me a reassuring smile.

The assembly begins with Panem's national anthem, then our daily prayer, and a small presentation about Panem's history.After the boring presentation I hear "I have heard that Katniss Everdeen has something prepared for us today. So can you come forward please?" Caesar says. This is it. There´s no going back.
