*** Peeta's POV ***
I am standing right at the bakery's door. I close my eyes and take a deep breath.
This won't be easy but I need to do it. I need to stop this once and for all. I am going to do this. No more running. This is the day I'll finally be free. I won't be a coward anymore.
I take another deep breath to let all the stress out.
Today is the day everything will change for good.
At least I hope so.I turn my face a bit to look back at the shoe store in front if the bakery which is where Kat is. I lock eyes with her, who is staring back at me through the store's glass displays. Every time I see her I discover something that makes me fall in love with her even more. This time her eyes are what catch my attention.
Katniss' eye colour never fails in amazing me. People say that the eyes are the window to someone's soul and Kat is the living proof of that. The grey in her eyes resembles the colour of the clouds of an indomitable thunder storm and it reminds me of the magnificent and beautiful silver moon. That's a good description of my Katniss. Indomitable, magnificent, and beautiful.
Indomitable because she'll never let someone make her do something she knows is wrong. She stands up for what is right even if she were to do it alone, she defies the system. Magnificent because she is one girl to look up to, her personality is one to admire and finally beautiful since she not only has a wonderful personality but also has great physical beauty. I guess that's why, to me. She is the most wonderful and amazing person in the world.
Katniss will go to the alley located behind the bakery once I'm in but for now, she can't be seen. My father could come back from my uncle Johnathan's house at any given moment. She will film everything and I will use it as a proof of what my mother does if it's necessary. Katniss gives me a reassuring smile and I return it.
This is it. I am doing this.
I put my shaky hand in the door's handle and swallow.
I can't do this. She is my mother!
You have to do this Peeta! You can't keep living like this.
Should I do this?
Yes. If you don't, you, Will, and Josh still be beaten and live in fear.My fear transforms into determination and I finally turn the knob. I walk towards the back of the bakery and there stands a tall, blonde woman. She's wearing a grey skirt, white shirt, black heels, and her hair in a bun. If anyone saw her, they'll think she's the sweetest person they'll ever meet. My mother is evil yet a beautiful woman. I remember when I was five and her smile lighted up the whole room and her presence warmed up anyone's heart even the ones made of pure ice and rock. I remember when she was actually a loving and sweet mother.
When I turned five she stopped being kind and loving unless there were other people around us and when I turned six and a half my mother beat Will for the first time. Josh and I thought it was a onetime thing and that it wouldn't happen again.
How could we be so stupid?I clear my throat and analyze what I'll say after greeting her. "Good morning mother." I greet with the kindest and most respectful voice I can muster. My mother turns around and looks at me with pure anger and disgust. The bitter words that leave her mouth in the following moment with the intention of hurting me fail since I myself have heard even worst things come from her mouth a million times before. "There you are you useless scum. You are 17 minutes late. You know the consequences of this! I told you yesterday that you aren't worth enough to make me lose my precious time. Do you want to go to the cellar again?" an evil smirk appearing in her mouth as she finishes. I stand there unaffected by her words.
