Author's note: Right so as everyone may have figured out by now this is fiction (despite insistent wishing to the contrary) therefore there will be some inaccuracies in the writing. By this I mean time frames, some names (even completely made up people) places and hangouts and the fact that Deshaun (aka Proof) will still be alive, I have not set this in a specific year as it is more about the story than the timeline, so any inconsistencies with the story and Marshall Mather's real life (which if you know the intimate details to what the fuck are you doing reading this and not spending every second of your life with him??) really don't need to be pointed out to me ok! Lets just try to enjoy the narrative, if not there are many incredible stories on here and I know you will find the one for you 😊 cheers x

It had been two days since the incident in the park and Chloe had given up on hearing from Marshall, although unsure what had happened she was sure he didn't want to see her, guess fame really did change people. Instead she was looking forward, starting with an apartment, having met some of her new colleagues at a drinks introduction the previous evening she had been given a few leads on suitable apartments within her current price range. This was stop three for her and so far the only promising one, a cute cosy one bedroom with open living and kitchen, it seemed perfect for her and she cut off the real estate agent with an excited "Yes" before they could continue with the remaining features of the place. The papers all signed and security, first and last months rent all exchanged she was handed the key, another influence had been the place was ready now.

It had been a busy two days in the studio, the overtime hours were unnecessary but Marshall needed something to keep his mind off her and his work was always there for him like that.

"Yo dawg you gonna wrap it up and take a break or what?"

Marshall looks up from the decks to see Deshaun leaning in the doorway, the boys had called in the big guns when their attempts had failed yesterday.

"Its not quite right yet"

"It sounds as good as its gonna sound, as good as it sounded this time yesterday anyway"

Deshaun teases breaking into a grin

"Come on let me buy you a meal"

"Shit on a rare occasion you pay I better take advantage"

Marshall cant help but smile back at his oldest friend, he was indeed hungry and besides he couldn't even hear the finer points of the song anymore it was just white noise. He flicks the dials down and stands up wincing as his back strains

"Shit dawg you are old!" Deshaun laughs and dodges the ball of paper tossed at him

"You a year younger than me bitch"

So far Deshaun's job was done, get the workaholic to leave the studio and if at all possible get him to smile. He had received a call from the boys yesterday, Marshall had come to the studio late the other night in a foul mood, he didn't want to talk to anyone he just wanted to keep replaying the same hook trying to figure it out, something was up. However he knew Marshall all to well and he knew the way to approach it, lull him into a false sense of security then bam hit him with....

"You wanna know whats wrong dontchya?" Marshall cuts through his thoughts, twirling the bottle of beer in perfect circles above the table. They were in a booth in the back of one of their favorite bars, best burgers in town.

Deshaun looks up, stunned and clearly thrown off his game

"Well....yeah"

Marshall chuckles and shakes his head, "You think you know me so well, I fucking know you!"

"Right well then tell me"

"I dont know, nothing really, just..." Marshall sighs, there is no point lying to his boy.

"I saw Chloe the other day"

Deshaun shrugs, "Chloe who?

"Chloe Taylor"

"Wait, Australian Chloe? From school?" Now he looks interested

"Yeah, that Chloe"

"Shit..where?"

"You know when I was signing CDs the other day?"

Deshaun nods

"She came in, surprised the shit outta me, just came up with a CD made a wise crack and was just...all fucking there...in person"

Marshall takes a long swig of his beer as Deshaun leans back against the maroon padding

"Shit, right well that explains the mood then hey, what did you say?"

"I was shocked, wound up getting her card and calling her. We were gonna have dinner but I lost my shit and wound up yelling at her instead."

"Good. I mean don't get me wrong I always liked her but didn't you guys have a plan? Wasn't she meant to be coming back"

"Yeah instead she went home, never fucking heard from her again"

Marshall signals for two more beers.

"Well till now"

"So you should have had a go at her. Whats the problem?"

"I dont know, she seemed stunned, I don't know what she was expecting but that definitely wasn't it"

The burgers arrive and Deshaun picks his up

"Well how does she look?"

"She looks good, damn good" Marshall picks up his too

"So you gonna see her again then obviously"

"I don't know, didn't really end it the best for that, plus she is married."

"Yeah butchu Slim Shady now dawg.. husband who? That's probably why she's here"

Marshall laughs, "Na she's working here, remember that cunt of a mother, she does the same job"

"Professional cunt for a living?"

The two crack up laughing, the anxiety beginning to fade as Marshall ends up enjoying himself.
