Chapter 23: 'This Boy'

Via's POV

I leaned closer to my window frame as I breathed in and out rapidly staring blankly at nothing in particular.

"I like you." Cameron's British accent of my liking echoed in my head repeatedly.

Then my thoughts were disrupted by three knocks on the door.

"It's open." I called out.

"Hey, Via. You texted me a minute ago to come here, what is up with that?" Austin asked with the most crazed out look on his face I've ever seen.

Yes, I texted him even though I could've just shouted his name from the stairs because I'm that lazy.

"Yeah, I sent you that text. Can we talk?" I asked him as I gestured for him to plop down on the empty bed beside me.

He turned to where I told him to sit looking nervous. It was just Mackenzie's bed, geez bro.

"You're starting to scare me. Is there something wrong?" He asked full of concern.

"No, everything's fine." I bit my lip and rested my chin on my hand.

"Then what's there to talk about? Is this about Luke or something?" He inquired while throwing his head back so he was lying on Mackenzie's bed.

"Please," I snickered, "Luke is the least of my concerns at this point." So true.

"Okay, then what's this about? You barely talk to me nowadays." He admitted looking heavenward and tossing a pillow up and down for his own amusement.

"Awww, is little Austin missing out?" I teased him a bit.

"Oh stop it, will you. I'm just saying, you're not really the anti-social Victoria I used to know, the one I grew up with in particular. You just don't hang out with Mackenzie anymore, don't you? You bond with her along with your other friends, which I have nothing against. You have real friends now, and my, but they're amazing, aren't they?" He explained.

"Yeah, they're bloody incredible." Mother of pearl! Why the hell did I say bloody again? That's like the millionth time this week.

"Bloody incredible? What a vocabulary you got there, huh?" He remarked, faking an English accent. It didn't suite him, tee-bee-ach.

"You'll get used to it." I guaranteed him casually.

"Yeah, I guess I will, now that Cameron's been coming over really often." I smiled at Aussie's sudden mention of his name.

"Hey you piece of sh*t, what's with the beam?" The name-calling hasn't stopped. I turned over to his direction as he had an amused face plastered over while he tossed a stuffed animal in my direction. It was a unicorn, so I'm not complaining.

"I wasn't beaming." I retorted embarrassed that he just saw that.

Liar, liar, pants on fire.

"Yeah, I may not be as smart as you, but I'm not that dumb either to tell what your expression is. You, my sister, are hiding something." He smirked feeling proud of his keenness or what not.

"You know what, I'm not hiding anything. That's why I called you to get here, I need a brother's slash boy's point of view on this matter." I told him averting my gaze at his nose. Mackenzie once told me that if you can't look straight in a person's eyes, you look at their nose.
