As I walked out of the classroom, I felt overwhelmed. I did it. I didn't make a foolish girl out of me and I didn't give into my wishes to be with him. Mostly because I had realised - it is not possible and never will be. That is, unless I want trouble for the both of us.
Outside I was met by Alexis and Jesse. His friend had disappeared, but he was sitting on the closest bench, chatting with Alexis about something related to travelling. When they heard the door close, they both turned their heads towards me and smiled.
"What did he want?" Jesse asked with annoyance in his voice. It was obvious he didn't like Mr.Bogdanovych much.
I came up with a reply quite fast, which was a surprise to me, since my brain was still trying to cope with the whole situation.
"He just, um, wanted to check if we had any tests on the days he plans to put a test."
Alexis and Jesse didn't notice I was lying, thank God, so they didn't continue this conversation. Instead, they started chatting about travelling again and I easily joined in, talking about France and Brazil as my favourite travel spots.
Marzia popped up in my mind and I was about to ask Alexis about her, when she looked at Jesse and then exclaimed that she's going to the library for the lesson and left quickly. I was confused, but Jesse took my hand and lead me down the stairs.
It was weird, holding his hand, because the only one I had ever held hands was Alexey. And, honestly, this time I didn't have butterflies in my stomach. It was as if Alexis would've held my hand. Of course, I was not as comfortable as I am with Alexis, but this somehow felt similar to that.
"So..." Jesse said and looked at me hopefully. I was already expecting his offer to go out, so it didn't take me by too much of a surprise, but then I looked into his light grey eyes and my whole world shook.
They are so beautiful!
Confused by my creepy staring into his eyes, Jesse lost his language for a second.
"Is something wrong?" There was a light frown on his face, but it disappeared as soon as I explained to his what had caught my stare. Instead, there appeared an incredibly cute smile with light dimples. How cute is that?
"Anyways..." He tried to finish what he was saying, but somehow all my previous thoughts about giving him a change had disappeared. I knew I wasn't ready for dating someone, especially not Jesse - a boy, who lost his virginity at the age of 14. It was a fact, that even the teachers of this school knew.
"I'm sorry, Jesse. If you're going to ask me out today, I can't accept that. You are an okay boy, but I don't have time for 'hanging out' right now." I said, expecting backlash from him.
But no. Instead, he squeezed my hand and just said: "Just hit me up when you're ready, babe."
Who was he and what had he done with the old Jesse? The old one would've already ran away and told everyone that I had asked him out and he had said no.
Stunned, I couldn't reply anything. All I could do was just to follow him to the first floor, where biology was supposed to happen.
"Did you send Alexis away, so you could ask me out?" I asked him, knowing for a fact, that it was his accomplishment.
He smirked, but didn't answer. Still, I counted that as a yes, since that's what he sometimes did. It was crazy how much I seemed to know about him, even though we didn't really speak that much on a day-to-day basis.
When we reached the first floor, Jesse started to ask me questions about myself, reminding me the date with Alexey. Only he had been a lot interested in the answers, than Jesse was now.
As we reached the biology's classroom, I looked around the hallway to see if Alexis or Marzia was around. I really wanted to talk to them about everything that had been going on. Well, maybe I didn't want to tell everything to Marzia, but to Alexis - everything.
My eyes met with Marzia's, but she looked very serious, as if she was trying to push me off with her facial expression. It was working, since I felt uncomfortable going near her and talking to her. It also made me sad, because I didn't want our friendship to just evaporate, but it felt like this was going that direction.
Alexis was nowhere to be seen in the hallway, but I didn't go in the library, since I now knew it was just a white lie to get me a moment of privacy with Jesse, who was currently talking about some guy from the 10th grade. I had no idea who he was, but he was just some skater boy, who Jesse had had a beef with. Honestly, who did he have peace with these days?
"Imma run to the locker room real quick before the lesson starts, okay?" I said to Jesse mid-sentence. I really didn't care about that boy James.
He nodded and retreated towards the group of boys, where he was almost treated like a royalty. I had no idea why, though. Because he started a beef with anyone, who treated him differently? Hm...
Alexis was squatting down to see her locker better, but when she saw me come in, she immediately jumped up, her face beyond excited.
"So? When's the date?"
I felt mortified. This felt soo wrong, talking about boys and stuff. This was not a topic I liked to discuss. With anyone, except Saf... How was she? We never talked after the unsuccessful date with Alexey. I need to invite her over for a chat.
"Oh, no, no, no date yet." I said, uncomfortable till the core.
Alexis face dropped, but she didn't demand explanation like Marzia would've done. That's what I loved about Alexis - she never tried to push me to do anything I didn't want to.
I placed the books we had already used today in the locker and took out books for our next lessons - Biology, English business and two Physics. I hated Physics, but I couldn't ditch. Others, who ditched, had already made themselves problems and unwanted attention from the teacher.
As we walked out of the locker room, we had to pass the Physics classroom. The door was open a bit, but we didn't touch it.
Of course, when I heard Alexey's russian accent, I stopped immediately.
It sounded like he was hitting on the teacher! Our physics teacher - Miss Blackbird. She wasn't particularly ugly and didn't have the best personality, but it really was true and I heard it with my two own ears! Alexey... my Alexey... nah, not mine. Mr.Bogdanovych, OUR teacher, was hitting on the Physics teacher.
"Do you smoke?" There was a light accent on the last word, which made me 100% sure it was him.
Alexis had stopped, too, and was looking at me confusedly. When she mouthed 'What is it?', I signaled her to listen, too.
So, there we were, two senior girls, listening to the conversation of our young teachers.
Miss Blackbird was hitting on Alexey, too, which broke my heart. I was sort of over him, but not like this... Not if he was already hitting on another girl. Heck, she wasn't a girl. She was already a woman.
There were footsteps approaching the door, so we both recoiled from the door in inhuman speed and started walking to the biology's classroom.
When I looked over my shoulder, I saw Alexey put his arm over Miss Blackbirds shoulders and it broke my heart even more.
Hey loves! Thank you for reading this chapter! :) I know it seems like it is going very badly for Adèle and her love life, but I promise, it will soon turn back to normal again! ;))
