Toothless didn't much sleep throughout the night, even though he was quite exhausted from the fight he had put up. He had spent the journey from the forest to the cage he now sat in thrashing against the chains that kept him shackled. He couldn't roar outwardly or fire a blast because of the muzzle, but he could tell that the Vikings were becoming agitated, and Toothless liked that. He was still dangerous even when locked up.
Right now, he was lying on a stone cold floor on the far corner of the cage, keeping himself in the shadows where he liked it. Although the temperature was quite low due to the cold night, he didn't want to leave. Another reason for why he couldn't sleep too well was because usually, he would heat up the ground he wanted to sleep on but, again, thanks to the muzzle, he couldn't, so if he couldn't find a warm place to sleep, he may as well not be exposed too much to the eyes of the outside world.
However, probably the main reason why he couldn't get to sleep was because he was apprehensive of what was to come. Toothless knew he would have a high chance of dying here. Why else was his early friendship with Hiccup kept a secret, but he didn't know what was going to happen to Hiccup. He had been carried off to the village while Toothless forced into this cage. Now, Toothless didn't want to think like this, but he was fearful that Hiccup would be killed by his own tribe. To Berk, befriending a dragon was and clearly still is considered a traitorous act, and Toothless knows that. He didn't spend all that time in the cove for no reason. But he didn't know what the punishment was. Was its execution? Or was it something else, like banishment or exile? The latter option wouldn't affect the two, seeing as they would happily leave Berk a second time, but the first option made his claws dig into the stone and his muscles tense up, as if he was prepared to fight. If any one of those Vikings dared harm Hiccup, he would have no problem in burning down this island.
He just hoped it never came to that. He couldn't see a happy life ahead of him without Hiccup. He was all he had, and he the last thing he wants is for him to leave.
But there was nothing he could do to change Hiccup's fate. He had been released from the wooden platform that kept him trapped while the Vikings transported him to the arena-looking area and those Vikings had quite a hard time releasing the dragon and getting it into the cage. However, they succeeded in the end and Toothless kept his eyes fixated on the Vikings that were now leaving the arena, never even blinking until they were out of sight. He lowered his stance and relaxed a little more. There was nothing he could do now. All he could do now was hope that Hiccup would be alright.
"Well, would you look at the, new dragon here to keep us company," A voice said, breaking Toothless' silence. It came from the cage next to his and though he didn't want to interact with any dragons that may be here, he was frustrated, and rather not have to put up with this.
"This new dragon won't be here much longer. This one will leave this island or die very soon," Toothless hoped at that was enough for him to get some quiet, but he was mistaken. And Toothless would soon later find out that if he didn't want anyone to talk to him, he didn't go about it in the right way.
"You are aware that if you are locked up in one of these cages, you're going to be used for training. You'll never leave," This new voice was coming a few cages away from him so Toothless could just make out a Monstrous Nightmare lying on the floor with his head near to the metal bars that prevented him from getting out and his body presumably curled up. Toothless huffed in disbelief. If he was going to be used to train little Vikings to killing dragons, he would make sure that he was the last thing those humans ever see. He may be turning a little murderous now, killing Viking hatchlings, but at this point, with this state of mind, he couldn't care less. It may not improve the reputation dragons have around here, but Toothless was okay with that. Berk didn't seem to have the kind of Vikings that welcomed change, so it didn't matter what he did, positive or negative because he'll still be hated either way.
