Hiccup spent much of the next day not really knowing what to do. He spent most of his hours with Toothless in the cove, enjoying his company but ultimately, his mind was occupied with something else.

He hadn't stopped thinking about his theory as to why Berk still kept getting dragon attacks all year round. He knew those types of dragons migrate to different areas. They would never stay in the same place, so he was fairly convinced that something else was going on here. He talked about this to Toothless and though all he got were grunts and growls, Hiccup was sure Toothless agreed with him.

But if he was going to get any answers, he needed to get Toothless up in the air, which meant he had to make a new prosthetic tail fin. The impact of the crash had ripped the red tail fin off Toothless' tail and the metal supporters that kept the tail in place had been damaged badly, so Hiccup had no choice but to make another one. Unlike the last time he made a tail in Berk's forge, however, he could make the tail without needing anything other than the materials to assemble it. He had made it many times to know what to do. And even though his healing arm may hinder him, he didn't think it would be too much of a trouble that would cost him a great amount of time.

With that in mind, he had found a way, but he couldn't go into the forge in daylight. Not only would there be too many people around, but the forge as well would be occupied by Gobber, who he didn't necessarily want to interact with. Every other first encounter he had hasn't been by his own free will. If he had been given the choice, he would've stayed away from everyone. Now that he finally had a situation where he was in control, so he decided to wait out here until he felt like it was getting close to evening. He didn't eat much, but he wasn't too affected by that. Toothless managed to catch several fish in the time span they had been there and heated up a few so that Hiccup could eat them as well.

When that time had approached, Hiccup left the cove and headed for the village. Thankfully, there was no one in the woods, so he didn't need to keep his guard up that much, but when he entered the village, that was when he needed to be cautious.

As he just entered the village, Hiccup found that he needed to keep hidden immediately. Walking around the village, he saw the figure of an elderly man, digging his staff into the ground with every step he took. Hiccup remembered Mildew very clearly. Though he lived on the other side of the island after he proved that he couldn't be very civilised amongst society, he was moved to the other side of the island with nothing but a little sheep he named Fungus. However, he may seem like a delusional old man, Hiccup knew that he had a cunning brain and many Vikings used to think that Hiccup and Mildew were quite alike. Both had always been weak and had more brains than brawn. It's just that Mildew was a lot more devious with a very bad connotation.

Some Vikings were still hovering around the forge, Gobber included and since Hiccup didn't want them to see him. He just hung back in the shadows, waiting for them to leave. Once they did, Hiccup looked around to make sure that the coast were clear before making his way into the forge. It wasn't completely dark. Half the sun was still above the horizon. But it didn't really matter too much. Hiccup saw the group of Vikings go off into the Great Hall, and from what Hiccup recalled, he knew that they wouldn't be coming out until the late hours of night. By that time, he would be out of this forge with a new prosthetic tail made.

While making the tail however, he couldn't help but feel a little guilty about going into Gobber's forge and using his supplies. He felt like he had no rights to be here and that he didn't deserve to leech off of someone else, but he pressed forward and continued to make the different parts he needed for the tail. Suddenly, he was having nostalgia of when he was first making Toothless' tail. He wonders how Gobber hadn't noticed the change in amount of leather and metal.
