I stood at the edge of the woods snuggled up in a large sweatshirt my hands buried In my jeans I hadn't expected it to be so cold out today, but it did help my small hangover I hadn't drank much at the party last night but I rarely drank anything so the small amount I did have did numbers on me.
I eyed the trees again suspiciously remembering what my grandma had said about wolves and wondered for a moment if I would see one but I knew wolves were pretty rare and I doubted one hike into the woods would allow me to see such an amazing and terrifying creature.
I stepped forward towards the trees and I heard a piece of wood snap under something heavy I took a step back jumping slightly as I heard heavy breathing. I searched the trees and the undergrowth silently praying it wasn't big foot or something just because they won't hurt you if you don't threaten them doesn't mean I can't be scared shitless by them. I backed up again as a huge shadow shifted in the trees I focused on the huge figure and spotted glowing green eyes a low whine came from the creature and it turned around so fast disappearing before I could make out what it was.
I could still feel my heart hammering in my chest as I backed away to the porch turning on my heel and running inside slamming the glass door shut even though I knew a creature of that size wouldn't be stopped by it. I stared at the door staring into the woods for half an hour as I let my heart relax and my mind raced with questions.
I was about to go back to my room moving to stand up when I spotted movement in the woods and I fell back down onto my butt staring intently at the woods, and saw green eyes looking back at me with the same intensity. It started to move closer and I could make out a giant black paw step past the undergrowth and part of a muzzle.
I felt drawn to the creature in a weird way but I still couldn't make out what it was so I stayed put watching it as it seemed to debate if it should come out or not it was about to take another step forward when the door flew open behind me and I turned to see my grandma coming in the door "honey come help me with the groceries?"
"Grandma som-" I broke off turning back to the woods only to see the creature had disappeared. My grandma walked over to me looking at me weirdly as I sat at the door "what?" she asked looking out at the trees I shook my head standing up "nothing grams just seeing things."
