I woke up at midnight groaning and flipping In my bed as the noise that had woken me up increased in noise it sounded like animals fighting I sighed slipping out of the bed and made my way downstairs looking in on my grandma for a Moment realizing she hadn't even noticed the sound.

I pulled my blanket closer around me and headed downstairs following the noise to the back door. the little cabin light illuminated the ground between the forest and the house.

There was growls and yelps and I strained to see what was going on when suddenly two huge wolves rolled into the lighted area one black and the other brown they fought for dominance the brown one was losing and he seemed to realize it to as the black one dug his teeth deep into his leg. the brown wolf howled in pain and limped back away from the black one who was almost twice the other ones size the black wolf stood firmly in front of the house and snarled at the brown wolf who ran off into the forest blood had splattered all over the yard and the black wolf was also wounded and bleeding.

It turned to the house the light shining on it's shimmering fur his glowing green eyes locked onto me and it seemed shocked. I put my hand on the glass with surprise that creature it was the one from before. this wolf was almost as big as a horse and it stared intently at me as if frozen in place. with a trembling hand I opened the door wincing against the cold of the night something told me this wolf wasn't going to hurt me, the way he had stood in front of the house almost like he was protecting it from the other wolf.

The black wolf whimpered and looked unsure of what to do as I stepped outside clutching the blanket closer. the wolf lowered it's head and lowered itself into its stomach trying to make sure I knew he wouldn't hurt me I realized I had read it in one of my books and I took a deep breath taking a few more steps so I stood in front of him. the wolf watched me curiously and I reached a trembling hand slowly out to him. he leaned his head forward and presses his head into my hand.

I gasped in surprise and then ran my hand through his fur watching as his eyes slide closed and he made a sound that almost sounded like a purr. I sat down on the ground in front of the wolf petting his soft fur and watching him.

"Are you okay?" I asked even though I knew he wouldn't be able to respond and I doubted he understood but his eyes opened and he licked my cheek making me laugh and pull away wiping the slobber off my cheek "ew." I laughed and the wolf smiled it's tongue hanging out of the side of its mouth.

Suddenly it's mouth snapped closed and he stood up the sudden movement scared me and I stood up as well he tilted his head as a loud howl breached the air and he growled raising his own head in a ear splitting howl then he turned his head to look at me pushing on my stomach toward the house with his nose as if telling me I should go back inside and so I did although I wanted to stay with him longer I headed back inside he watched me and as soon as I closed the glass door his eyes hardened and he turned jumping back into the darkness and running into the woods.

I stood staring at where he had been and then took a deep shuddering breath before heading back upstairs to my room. What just happened? I asked myself as I flopped down onto my bed curling up on my side my mind went through everything that happened and before I knew I drifted off into sleep.
