Love sickness

Chapter One

Every year there's a big test well I wouldn't call it a test more like a check up, every doctor comes to see if your sick. Not sick with a cold, but sick like in love.
    Why do we love people? Why do we fall in love? Why would we fall in love if there's a 50/50 chance of not being loved back? Well the answer is because it's the way we live, the way we survive, but what if that was all taken away from us?
     We couldn't love, like, anything, we had to hide our feelings inside us no matter how hard it was. Well that's like the world today, no love, it's banned if you love you get sent away to I don't know where. We walked past each other not able to love, not able to like just smile and wave.
     In school we learn why not to love and why it's bad, today we were getting tested to see if we are in love so far i'm not, haven't met anyone, not secretly dating someone, nothing.
    Every school across Canada is getting tested today, everyone gets a different time assigned, mines 1:00 my brother Jack he goes at 1:30, so when i'm leaving he's going.

    I walked down the hallway of my small run down house, blanket covering the windows, broken floor boards and you know what it's just a really run down house.
    I walked into the kitchen which was right across from the living room, I sat down on one of the small bar stools, the t.v behind me echoed in my ears, I turned around to see my aunt watching t.v. My parents i've never met them right after me and my brother were born they got taken away so we got raised by my aunt.
My brother walked out from the bathroom and sat down beside me.
" shouldn't you get going? " he asked.
" I have 30 minutes till I have to be in line i'll be fine " I smiled.
" how about we start walking together " he said.
I spilled my arms across table in front of me, facing down, I turned my head to look up at my brother " why, I really don't want to do this " I said.
" me either, but we're both not in love so? " he shrugged.
" let me grab my jacket and we can leave " I said hopping off the chair ran into my room grabbed my jacket and ran right back to the kitchen.
" Aunt Tilly were leaving " Jake yelled as we walked out the door.
It was two weeks into winter, snow had just started to fall, there was a light dust of the white fluffy goodness on the ground, just enough for you to know christmas was around the corner. We started to walk down the street with all the others walking down too, even though I hadn't found anyone special, I knew I wasn't going to because I didn't know what love even was or what it even felt like. So once again i'm going to live through another test.
They start the testing once you hit grade 5 because by then you start puberty you start feeling different things, so now that i'm 15 i've been doing these tests for 6 years.
" don't be nervous " he said.
" why would I be nervous I pass every year " I said.
" yeah, but I tell you this every year so just don't be nervous " he said again.
" fine " I smiled.
We walked up to the White Flower, the main hall in other terms.
I joined the line that was leading into 10 different rooms.
" you got this see you after " Jack gave me a hug then walked outside to wait for his turn.
Time passed, I was slowly starting to arrive at door 7, a girl walked out from the room and down the hallway, a tall girl in all white walked out after her.
" follow me " she said in a high pitch voice.
I followed her into a small room where one man sat in a chair, I sat down in the other chair, the man placed two clips on my thumbs and two on my pinkes. He opened the computer then started to look threw things he looked concerned.
He got up and walked over to the door, the man said a few words to the lady at the door, then walked back over to me. Two other tall balky men walked into the room and grabbed me by the arms.
" what's going on? " I asked.
" you were tested to be in love " the man said.
" what that's not possible i've never loved anyone in my life, something must have gone wrong " I said.
" nothing is ever wrong " he replied.
The two men lifted me up from the chair, as they pulled me out of the room they stopped for a second, I saw my brother standing in the line, I elbowed both of them then ran over to him.
He saw the concern on my face, " hey what's going on? " he asked.
" I.. I don't know, I was tested in love something went wrong " I was shaking.
" that's not possible " he said.
" that's what I said, but I don't know " I said breathing fast.
" ok calm down " he said.
The two man ran up to me and grabbed my arms, " Jack! " I reached out to him. They took me out of the White Flower, they put me into the back of a truck, no one else was there, the truck started to drive.
How did this happen? How did I fail? I was scared. I didn't know where I was going I just felt bumps in the road. I wanted to cry I did cry, my head was pounding I was so confused.
What felt like an hour later the truck stopped, the door opened, a man pulled me out of the truck, we walked down a dim lit hallway. The man threw me in a room with two beds, there was a girl sitting on one of them.
" welcome " the girl with short red hair said she wore gray clothes.
" what is this place? Where are I? " I asked.
" we all call it the hole, but it's not so bad, a change of clothes is over there " she smiled pointing to what looked to be my new bed.
I changed into the gray clothes that were laid out for me.
" hey come sit " she said, I walked over and sat down at the end of her bed.
" i'm Quinn " she smiled.
" Vivian " I smiled back.
" so how old are you and what brings you here? " she asked.
" well i'm 15, and I don't know why i'm here " I said.
" what do you mean weren't you in love? " she asked.
" nope don't even know what it feels like something went wrong " I sighed feeling tear come back to my eyes
" weird, well my ex she's not here she's somewhere else" Quinn smiled.
" she? " I questioned.
" yeah i'm gay " she smiled.
" ok " I smiled.
" well it's almost dinner so you can come hang with my friends, you'll fit right in " she smiled.
She leaned over to tie her shoes, she looked up at the clock the time said 4:00. A small ping happened the door swung open.
" come on we got to get a good spot " she said.
I ran after her, " wait how old are you? " I asked.
" i'm 17 been in her for two year's, don't worry you'll pick everything up quickly " she said.
" why do we have dinner so early? " I asked.
" well this is pre dinner don't worry it will all make sense in a week " she said.
We turned into a room full of couches people talking and hugging like they hadn't seen each other for days.
We walked over to a group of people three boys and two more girls.
" who's the chick " a boy asked, brown hair, pale skin, gray clothes, green eyes.
" this is Vivian just got here a couple minutes ago, my new room mat " Quinn explained.
" don't worry you'll last without your lover here with you" a girl with long dark brown hair, brown eyes and gray clothes.
" she doesn't have a lover, she's here by mistake " Quinn added.
" weird " they all said, they all seemed really concerned.
" anyway everyone introduce yourselves " Quinn smiled.
" Samuel " the boy that spoke up already said.
" hey i'm Winny " they girl who also has already spoke.
" i'm Trevor " the boy with bleach blonde hair, blue eyes and gray clothes.
" Leila " the girl with dyed blonde hair, brown eyes, blake skin and gray clothes smiled.
" Blake nice to meet yeah " the boy smile, short brown hair, hazel eyes, gray clothes, olive skin, he looked at me head to toe.
Quinn and I sat down on one of the couches.
" so if you've never felt love before then how did the machine detect it? " Leila asked.
" that's what i'm trying to figure out " I said.
" so never felt love? " Blake asked.
" nope never " I smiled.
" how old are you? " Trevor asked.
" 15, why does everyone want to know my age? " I asked.
" it's a thing we do we're all 17 or 16 " Samuel said.
" should we get going to grab a table? " Winny asked.
" yeah sure " Quinn smiled.
I followed everyone to another big room full of tables, full of food.
We all sat down.
" ok another thing you should know, were sent here because they think it's going to protect the people who haven't loved yet, but everyone will one day " Blake said.
" this is so much to take in " I said.
" first I was at home then I was thrown in a truck and now i'm stuck here " I added.
" I wouldn't say stuck more like safe " Leila said.
" how am I safer here? " I asked.
" well you can be you here, you don't have to hide " she added.
" wait so let me get this strange all of you haven't see outside for years " I said.
" nope, but what does it look like now? " Winny asked.
" really green, flowers everywhere, the skys blue most of the time " I said.
" I can imagine it " Winny smiled.
" Winny you imagine anything and everything " Blake said, everyone laughed.
Blake is going to pick on everyone or has picked on everyone I can sense it, I didn't like him.
We started to eat our food.
" also we have school here too " Trevor said.
" really, I wanted to get away from school " I said, starting to warm up to everything around me.
" why do we have to wear gray? " I asked.
" like up in the real world we have leaders and teachers ", " down here we have teachers and a leader, no one's ever met him, but we do know he likes the colour gray " Leila smiled.
" ok I still can't believe you got sent here when you have never even felt love " Trevor said.
" I don't know, but I know that I never will, so guess i'm down here now " I said.
" has anyone ever tried to escape? " I asked.
" no not that we know of why? " Quinn asked.
" just wondering " I said.
" I wouldn't try and escape if that's what your thinking " Blake said.
" and why shouldn't I do that? It's not like were being tested " I said. Everyone looked at each other.
" high security they've beat up people before and since your 15 don't think you could fight back " Blake spock up.
" Blake come on " Quinn punched him in the arm.
" no it's fine I am weak, small, but I have taken 5 years of boxing so how about you try and stand up to one of the guards then " I said.
" dude she just burned you" Trevor said.
Blake got up and walked away, " I think you just broke Blake " Leila said.
" I guess I did " I smiled, I looked over at him as he walked out of the eating hall.

Quinn and I walked back to the room at 6 to start getting ready for bed.
" so you going to be fine here? " Quinn asked.
" I guess i'm just going to miss my family " I said.
" don't worry it will get easier as time passes " she said.
" thanks " I smiled.
I crawled into my bed and looked up at the ceiling, took a breath, rolled over and closed my eyes
