The Unexpected Couple

Chapter Twelve

The annoying ring of my phone wakes me up the next day. I groan and throw the comforter off of my body before unplugging my phone and answering the call. 

"Hello?" I say.

"Hey!" A happy voice says through the speaker. 

"Hi Ash."

"Were you still asleep?"

"Yeah, I was." 

"Oh sorry! Anyways we still on for tonight?" 

I nod but then realize he can't see me. "Yeah. Where are we going?" 

"You'll see when we get there." He says and I can basically hear him smirking through the phone. I roll my eyes.

"Whatever. What time?" I say. 

"I'll pick you up at five. Bye!" He says hanging up and not giving me a chance to respond.

The doorbell rings at 5:00 sharp. I open it and Ashton is typing away on his phone. He glances up from his phone and smiles. 

"Hey." He says smiling. "You look great." His eyes scan my body and I roll my eyes.

"Thanks." I say. 

"Ready?" He asks. I nod and grab my Vera-Bradley wallet from the table by the door and follow Ashton to his truck. He opens the door for me and shuts it as soon as I'm in the seat. He walks over to his side and climbs in starting the ignition. 

"Are you gonna tell me where we're going?" I ask raising my eyebrow at him. He smirks.

"Nope. You'll see when we get there." He says glancing at me. About 15 minutes later we pull up to a Schlotzsky's. 

"Seriously!? You couldn't just tell me we were going to Schlotzsky's!"I say laughing and he shrugs. 

"I wanted it to be a surprise?" He says.

"You don't sound so sure about that." I say smiling and he glares at me making me laugh again. He rolls his eyes and throws his arm over my shoulder as we walk inside. 

"Hey Rain!" Morgan says as we walk in. I move from Ashton's grasp and into her hug and she wraps her arm around my wrist and leading me to a table with two other people at it. "Okay so this is Luke and Avery." She introduces me to the two of them. 

"Hey!" Avery says. "I've seen you at soccer right?" I nod in response to her question. "You're so good!" She says and I blush.

"Thank you. I say sitting on the other side of the booth. Morgan slides in next to me and Ashton pulls up a chair at the head of the table. We all talk for awhile about random things but then Morgan lets out a giant gasp. My eyes widen as I jerk back slightly looking at her. 

"What the hell was that!?" I ask her and she nudges my arm with her elbow pointing at something. I follow her gaze and see Calum standing at the register, My mouth forms an 'o' shape and I look at Morgan who has turned a deep shade of red. I snap my hand in front of her eyes and she flicks her eyes over to me. 

"What?" She says. 

"Snap out of it. Or at least go talk to him." I say. 

She narrows her eyes at me and shakes her head so rapidly I'm afraid it might fall off. "No. No. Never happening." She says.

"How do you expect to ever date him if you don't talk?" She shrugs and I roll my eyes crawling over her legs. "Fine. Then I'll do it." II say. Her eyes grow wide and she shakes her head again but i ignore her walking up to Calum. I tap him on the shoulder and he turns and looks at me. 

"Hey." I say. 

"Heyy... You're the new girl from Texas... Rain right?" He says and I nod. He smiles at me. 

"So my friends and I saw you and wanted to know if you wanted to join us." I say motioning towards the table. The two boys are snickering and Morgan is hiding her face and Avery smacks Luke's arm. I look back at Calum and he's smirking. 

"Sure." He says. He grabs his food from the cashier and follows me to the table. I pull up an extra chair and sit in it next to Ashton allowing him to sit by Morgan. 

"Hey guys." He says as he slides into his chair. Everyone but Morgan answers hey back and he notices, turning towards her. "Hey Morgan." He says leaning forward a bit so he can see her face which makes her blush more. 

"Hey Calum." She answers with a smile and he winks at her. Morgan progressively gets more comfortable the whole time Calum was at the table. She lost some of the color in her cheeks and actually started talking to him. I make eye contact with Ashton who shakes his head, a piece of his curly hair falling in front of his eyes. I smirk and he rolls his eyes but then mouths 'good job'.

"We're going to go to the park!" Morgan announces linking her arm with Calum's who smiles. We all nod and I smirk and wink at Morgan who glares at me. They walk in the opposite direction and before they turn the corner Ashton shouts: "USE PROTECTION!" My eyes go big and I smack his arm but Avery and Luke laugh. 

"Take me home you dork." I say rolling my eyes. We get back in his truck and he drives me back to my house. I see a car I don't recognize in the driveway and narrow my eyes. "I don't recognize that car." I mutter and Ashton looks at me. 

"Really?" He asks and I nod. "Want me to come in with you?" He asks and I shrug. 

"Might as well. It's probably one of my dad's clients." I say. He nods and gets out of the truck with me. I open the front door looking around the room, seeing no one. 

"Rain is that you?" I hear my mom's voice. 

"Uh yeah." I say. 

"Come in the kitchen there's someone here to see you!" I look at Ashton with a weird expression and he shrugs. We walk into the kitchen and I freeze making Ashton run into my back when I see who is in the kitchen. 

"Liam?" I say.
