"Shit." I mumble under my breath already dreading this conversation. I nod and walk closer to him. He gestures to the living room and as I walk in I see my mom sitting on one of the couches twisting her fingers continuously.
I furrow my eyebrows as she looks up, giving me an apologetic look. I sigh, plopping down on the couch next to her and grabbing one of her hands. I give her a reassuring smile as my dad enters the room.
"Want to explain this?" He says glaring at me. I roll my eyes.
"It's a jacket." I answer and he glares again.
"Who's jacket is it?" He says.
"Mom already told you all of this so I don't know why you're going through the trouble of trying to make me explain it." I say.
"I thought I told you when we moved here that I expected you to focus on school and not boys like you did in Texas." He says and I roll my eyes for the second time.
"Josh." My mom starts. "She's almost 18. You need to let her have a bit more freedom." She says and I smile at her.
"She doesn't need freedom! She needs to focus on getting into law school." My dad says.
"Dad no! I don't even want to be a lawyer." I say standing.
"Sit down young lady we aren't done talking." He says. I huff and sit back down on the couch.
"You are not to see him again-" He starts.
"Dad!" I yell.
"You need to focus on school. Not in being a little whore." He says and I freeze. My mom gasps from beside me as tears start to well up in my eyes.
I march towards him and rip the jacket out of his hands. I glare at him one last time before rushing into the kitchen, grabbing my bag and keys and leaving the house.
As I'm driving down the road I groan realizing I have no where to go. Never in a million years would I have thought that a fight with my dad would end like that. Sure I've always had a closer relationship with my mom but the relationship between my dad and I was never that bad.
I pull over to the side of the road sighing. I run my hands over my face once and then grab my phone from the cup holder I had placed it in as I rushed out of the house.
I slide my thumb over the screen and open the contacts application. I look through all of my contacts, trying to find someone to stay with for the night. I sigh as I select the call button on Morgan's contact, bringing my phone up to my ear, while pinching the bridge of my nose.
"Hello?" Morgan's cheery voice sounds through the speaker.
"Hey. Morgan." I say not nearly as enthusiastic as she was.
"Uh oh. Something's wrong." She says and I chuckle.
"Yeah sort of. Do you think I could spend the night with you tonight?" I ask.
"Yeah of course. Calum is here but yeah." She says.
"Thanks I'll explain it all when I get there." I say.
"I'll text you the address." She says.
"Alright thanks. See you in a little while." I say and hang up the phone. I set it back in the cup holder and pull back onto the road heading for the nearest gas station. I need gas and I'm hungry so why not? I leave the gas station about ten minutes later with a full tank, a bag of gummy bears for me, and the biggest bag of skittles I could find for Morgan. I throw the candy in the passenger seat as I open the text Morgan sent me with the address to her house.
I follow the directions that google maps provides for me, pulling into her driveway about ten minutes later. I grab the bags of candy from the seat next to me and walk up to the front door, knocking because there isn't a doorbell.
I hear shuffling behind the door and then a loud thump, and I shake my head and chuckle knowing Morgan just tripped and fell.
The door swings open revealing Morgan who is rubbing her butt, as Calum laughs hysterically from the table he is currently sitting on. Morgan whips her head around and glares at him, silencing his loud laughter to quiet snorts every few seconds. She turns back around immediately, engulfing me in a hug which I immediately return.
"Come on. Get inside. Next time just walk in. That door isn't ever locked." She says and I nod.
"Morgan!" A female voice calls. She starts to walk towards the sound of the voice and gestures for me to follow. We enter a spacious kitchen with with an island in the middle. "You must be Rain?"she asks and I nod. "I'm DeAnna but you can call me Dee Dee." She says and I nod again. "You guys hungry?" She asks and my eyes widen and I look at Morgan punching her arm.
"Owww!" she groans. "What the heck was that for?!" I slowly bring my arm with the bag of skittles up and in front of her face. Her eyes widen to the size of saucers as she rips the bag out of my hand. Calum and I both laugh at her reaction as she tears open the bag a stuffs a handful in her mouth.
"Thank you." She says through the candy. All of the colors from the candy has blended together making her mouth a weird looking brown color. I look at her and then at Calum and Dee Dee before bursting out in laughter again. Morgan swallows the candy, glaring at us all.
"Come on." She says grabbing my arm and pulling me up the stairs and into what I assume is her room. She shuts the door and locks it and I stare at it for a moment.
"You just left Cal out there." I say and she shrugs.
"They like him. He'll be fine." She says and I shake my head.
"Whatever you say." I say. She plops down on her bed folding her legs and placing her hands in her lap.
"Now. Tell Morgan what happened." She says.
